They are a key component of flying circus builds for Daemons.

Nurgle princes are slowly losing their time in the sun with the proliferations of high str ignores cover, and in a couple of weeks, Tau will be the new hotness and Nurgle princes will be terrible [ignores cover + Str 10 vs T5 + No Eternal Warrior and a 5++ = feels bad man]. 2+ cover in the open is still pretty good in more casual metas though.

Tzeentch princes are easy to take because everyone and their uncle takes fateweaver while slaneeshi princes with Lash and Iron arm provide some much needed AA at the cost of having to take a KoS.

Khorne princes cry in a corner because they can't get the mastery levels that make princes viable and they're basically just a bloodthirster who isn't T6 and can't get a D-Weapon.

DP's of all kinds of pretty bad.

I played flying circus in 6th ed. and it was highly efficient and great fun to play.

However, changes in the FMC rules from 6th to 7th ed., as well as the smash nerf and psychic power change have all worked to make DPs much less viable.

All builds require an amount of luck to get the wargear and psychic powers you need (except khorne, but they are easily the worst). If you don't get the powers you need, then you have wasted a lot of points.

Consider that a fully kitted out DP runs in the region of 340+ points. Due to codex creep this is horribly overpriced when compared to newer things like riptides and wraithknights.
