Im trimming and bloating a competetive list that has an Inquisitorial division along with a gaurd mainforce, I enjoy for the use of Servo-Skulls and a Psyocculum and the added benefit of being able to take three ten point psykers, so my dilemna/thoughts/curiosities on this are that I want to use these warbands (with one psyker each) to be backfield CC units to distrupt the constant supply of summoned CC and Dropped CC units. more or less I plan on using these solely to soak up late turn attacks (I'm hoping theyll hold for A SINGLE round of combat to be bolstered next turn by the nearest Gaurdsmen sqaudron)

Im currently split on trying to either
A) take some sort of the specialized CC units Crusader/Arcos/Assasins. theyre awesome but go in at 15 points each for a unit'
or B) a unit comprised entirely of your basic Acolytes which clock in at 4 points a piece for one higher leadership than a gaurdsmen and would then have 3 attacks on the charge two on the charged

ive never really seen anybody run either, most people I know who do any Inquisition stop at the inquisitor, am I being foolish in even buying warbands?

thanks for any advice

Accolyte thing is a no-go.

Remember that you're capped at 12 henchmen, so your extra psyker is directly competing with useful CC dudes. For the unit, I'd do 2 priests, 6 assassins, and 4 crusaders. It's pretty hitty and you can get -1T on the charge, reroll saves, reroll misses, and reroll failed to wound thanks to the priests.

I used a unit composed of: 2 priests, an ordo xenos Inquisitor with rad grenades, DCA and 2 acolytes.
The acolytes were there to be shot by the overwatch.
The high I of the DCA, the reroll from the priest and the -1 T from the grenade did a great job.
You almost always hit before your enemy, negate his armor, and the -1T help the F4 to hurt.
It did very well against my marine opponent and an ork assault ( a unit of 10 or 12 stormboyz).
I kept them in my stormraven, it worked well.
Against the orks, the unit was in a rhino or on foot, I don't remember.
But my ork opponent was not very good.

What i usually run is 2 priest, 7 deathcult assassins, 3 crusaders. Add to this two inquisitors with grenades and psyker all stuffed inside a land raider crusader with psybolt. Always works for me and blenderizes anything it touches.

I run the following (along with grading)

1 psyker + 2 DCA in an allied stormraven = max value

3 DCA + priest + psyker + Inquisitor/pskyer/rad grenades = max killy

Add more DCA + Crusaders if you want some more punch, otherwise servitors are your source of ap2.

A fun cc squad is brother captain stern with a priest, ordo xenos inq w. Rad grenades, 5 or so crusaders, a psykers and the rest dca. Stern casts sanctuary and give everyone +1 to their invul. Crusaders end up with a 2++save. Then he casts hammerhand. Str 6 death cultists. Throw servitors in there as well for str 8 ap1 swings... That will install death a lot too! By by terminators! The rad grenades drop the toughness of a mob by 1. Suddenly space marine characters are getting instant death. Even marines on bikes need to steer clear. Grav doesn't hurt this squad.. Majority armor is 5+. Demons are swinging second and getting instant deathed as well!

This squad mulches other squads. Give them an effective delivery system and have fun!

But that is with grey knights added.

If grey knights are not your thing just do the same thing with out stern. 2-3 crusaders, dca, ordo xenos with rad, psykers, priest, couple servitors with a servo arm for that low ap str x2 swing for popping termies too. Still a mulch squad.

Stern is hella good for that, inquisitor rex does the same thing but for some reason they didnt give him purity of spirit.

I used the war bands a few times allied with my GK. I put one psyker in each group and then maxed out the acolytes armed with boltguns (a measly one point upgrade). I then used these guys as either a distraction for my GK units running around or objective grabbers and campers.
For a relatively low cost I got a few mobs with bolt guns and three extra psychic dice I could add to my GK pool to cast their psychic powers.

I used to run DCA, Crusaders, and an Inq w/ Rad grenades in a storm raven too! It was so much fun - but the inquisitor being able to cast hammerhand on the lot really put things over the top. Without a reliable way to get hammerhand I'm not sure it would work nearly as well. You won't be punching as many tanks to death at least....

Delivery mechanism is always an issue tho. If they don't get there, they don't do anything.

Sable Brotherhood - 2000pts
Wraithsight Corsairs - 2000pts
Void Angels - 500pts
