I'm still new to this site so excuse me if I am in the wrong area to post this. But it's related to Warhammer FB so I went here. For this is a general thing to talk about. The models are apparently going Square to circle and my box of Stormvermin are pretty much close enough I can . . Put them together? Not taste them, that's not good to eat.

But these guys have square bases and with the conversions from square to circle. How screwed am I?! D:

I've looked around and I could just cut the base away and glue to a circle base. But what about model advantage rule and LoS?

Could I just stick with square base and be fine?

I won't be playing in tournaments just at local games, friends hobby stores.

Base shape doesn't matter with AoS,so use the square ones if you wish

Most of my stuff is on squares and I don't intend to change them unless I use them for a judged event.

Square bases are fine. I would suspect as time goes on there will be fewer and fewer people with squares, but I doubt in friendly games anyone would have much of a problem with it.

For aesthetic and gameplay sake, I've rebased everything to rounds. I like the look of block regiments, but skirmishing squares is fairly ugly in my opinion.

Yeah, AoS doesn't care what base size you use, though different groups might have house rules so it's probably best to stick to sizes reasonably close to what the models came with.

If I were starting a new army and didn't have any previous WHFB armies I'd probably just go for round bases though, as time goes on GW will repackage the whole range with round bases so it'll be a hassle to stick to square going forward.

However, I do have existing armies, so I would instead stick to square bases so I can still play older versions of WHFB with and against my existing armies.

Somewhere in south-central England.

Officially, the rules are base neutral as said above. This is because you are supposed to measure ranges from the nearest point of the model, rather than the edge of his base. This clearly can give an advantage to large models on small bases, because you can crowd them closer together and get more figures into attack range. This is crucial in melee.

However, the Sigmarine figures, although they are on 32mm round bases, are very large and have big weapons, so there isn't so much disadvantage as you might think.

If and when GW make round bases compulsory, I expect them to specify 25mm round for smaller figures like Skaven and Skinks.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

^ Sigmarines are on 40mm bases, KK. :-)

I rebased my entire army onto Circle bases. I think not only do they look better, they also play better. Pile-ins are much smoother without the corners of Square Bases.

I suspect in future the base will become part of the rules again as the measuring from model to model has obvious problems.

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

Keep them on squares.

That way you can still use the models to play previous WHFB editions or KoW.

AoS might well be dropped soon by GW anyway due to low sales (though this might be called baseless scaremongering by some people) and it would suck to have to re-base the stuff from the round bases again in a few years.

If you measure from the bases (as most people do despite the rules) , having models on squares is even a slight competitive advantage in AoS, since they are smaller.

I put mine on 20mm washers, so that they will still fit into movement trays.

That's a good alternative if one wants to combine round bases and still be able to rank up.

If you can use 15mm rounds there are specially made moving trays to facilitate it.

There are ranked trays for 20mm rounds too, but the footprint gets slightly too big since there's usually space between the holes. (like the GW WotR trays had)

Oooh! Well alright, thank you guys. Was a wee bit worried you know? New and all to Warhammer!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I much prefer square bases but that's me! Besides I don't think I'll play much of the new Warhammer rules because from what my friend said it was dumbed down.

Unlike the old one.
