Does anyone else find it odd that Harlequins have no access to webway portals (beyond dark eldar allies) or access to deep strike (beyond a warlord trait)?

Aren't harlequins reputed as having the most knowledge of the paths of the webway? To quote from the background " They utilize their knowledge of the webway's hidden paths to outmaneuver their foes and strike from unexpected quarters. In this way, whole masques of Harlequins can position themselves in ambush, guaranteeing themselves the element of surprise."

I know the game rules aren't really true to the background (IE all space marines aren't one man armies) but I think in this case it would have really helped out an army that really struggles without allies. At least in a formation or something one would think? Having access to deep striking Harlequin Troupes would significantly help mitigate a lot of the issues the army has regarding getting across the field. Maybe I am the only one having trouble running mono harlequins?

Would this be too much? For the whole harlequin army to get access to deep strike?

I completely agree. This is a major lore fail right here. Kind of like fielding space marines and not allowing them to have bolters

Completely agree. As primarily a melee force it doesnt sound too over the top.

Yes, but several of their warlord traits are, if I"m not mistaken, meant to represent them utilizing the webway.

ATTENTION
. Psychic tests are unfluffy. Your longing for AV is understandable but misguided. Your chapter doesn't need a separate codex. Doctrines should go away. Being a "troop" means nothing. This has been a cranky service announcement. You may now resume your regularly scheduled arguing.

I'll agree with that, but the catch is, Warlord Traits are unpredictable. You get a little more predictability by choosing a Shadowseer as your warlord (by cutting out 9/12 possible traits, though), but it's still hard to rely on any of them.

If there were purchasable webway portals, Deep Striking Starweavers or something similar, that would at least be reliable.

I work around it by attaching an Archon or Succubus to my most major Troupe (which also usually means putting them in a Raider), but that's exactly the solution the OP doesn't want, and I can understand that. (That said, Hammerhand suddenly makes the Huskblade terrifying again.)

Well knowledge of the webway (a fixed structure) does not equate to having portable portals and certainly not to just deepstriking wherever you want. Webway portals are in fixed locations, I think, and pretty rare by galactic standards.

What's the lore supposed to be for the Dark Eldar Webway portals? I had thought they were some way of using the main Webway links to get fairly close, then using the portable portals to duck in, jump a short distance, and duck back out again - kinda like teleporting over battlefield distances. That, to me, seems like the kind of things the Harlequins are known for doing.
