Scott Weiland, Former Singer of Stone Temple Pilots, Dead at 48
Scott Weiland, the former frontman for rock bands Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, has died, his Facebook page confirmed early Friday morning (Dec. 4).
Scott Weiland, best known as the lead singer for Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, passed away in his sleep while...
Posted by Scott Weiland on Thursday, December 3, 2015
Dave Navarro, guitarist and member of Jane's Addiction, first tweeted the news at 9:01 p.m. PT on Thursday night: "Our friend Scott Weiland has died."
Just learned our friend Scott Weiland has died. So gutted, I am thinking of his family tonight.
— Dave Navarro (@DaveNavarro) December 4, 2015
Weiland and his latest band, Scott Weiland and the Wildabouts, are scheduled to tour this month with upcoming dates at Reno, NV on Dec. 18 and City Winery in Napa on Dec. 19.
Billboard has not confirmed the death of the singer, who turned 48 on Oct. 27. Weiland long suffered from substance abuse issues.
This story is developing.
What a shame - I was a huge fan of Stone Temple Pilots back in the day. I think he was a huge talent, but he sure had some personal demons - I've been sort of expecting to read this story for about 20 years.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was from a heroin OD given his past. It's sad to see people with such talent toss it all away with that type of lifestyle.

Wasn't he just kicked out of the recent incarnation of Stone Temple Pilots for drugs?
Sad he never got the help he needed. What a loss.

Yeah, that first album got played to death when it came out, literally wore the tape out.

48 is no age though eh ?

At least he didn't make the 29 club.
The last few inductees kinda lowered the tone of that act.

Saddened by the news. I wsn't a huge fan, but I enjoyed the first two STP albums, and he was a talented rock singer, and STP made a pretty big impact on the rock scene at the time.

Tough news. Always loved STP and even enjoyed Velvet Revolver now and again. They haven't said it, but I'd wager most likely drug use. Another name in the name of rock n' roll.

One of the guys I work with will be crushed. I think he has an STP shirt for every day of the week.
Never got much into Velvet Revolver, but I enjoyed quite a bit of STP's work myself.
RIP, sir.

I'm not sure I knew Amy died. Doesn't surprise me though, like you said.

I don't think I'll ever understand the "what a shame" mentality for someone that ostensibly had a ridiculously amazing life and pissed it away.
Millions of dollars, thousands of women, the world by the balls, all for playing mediocre rock music. That guy had way more fun than most of us can even imagine and died at almost 50 from suicide; that's not a bad life by any measure.
Something about the length of candles and their luminance.

Because as it turns out, some people thought his music was a lot more than just mediocre.
I never really understood why people try to come in threads about peoples deaths and try to crap all over a deceased person.

Indeed, kids only get to crap out the opinion that STP is "mediocre' because they have had 20+ years of gakky copycat bands pissing in the pool. STP are the Stones of Cali alt rock.

On the plus side, at least he never joined the '29 club' (recent additions to that act brought the tone down a tad).
He's had his demons for most of the last 20ish years - but he put out some good music despite it (or maybe to spite those demons).
