Hmmm, one of the things that I have noticed with my local group and Kings of War - not only are they getting back into fantasy wargaming, but many are starting up second armies. (Ogres seem a particularly popular second army.)

Is this something that is widespread?

I have Salamanders, Ogres and a Nature army. And an awful lot of undead I can't be bothered to paint. So yes.

I find the game is so "proxy" friendly, or substitute model friendly that it absolutely stirs the hobbyist soul. Finding models I own that would make awesome "x" or "y" suddenly get me to build whole new forces, as I surprise myself with what I already own.

I'm guilty as I say this, but between the wife and I, we can field 2000 points of at least six armies already, and have plans for 2 more in 2016.

Yeah, until Uncharted Empires released the wife and I could field 2000+ points of every faction except Abyssal Dwarfs...

This, right here.

Our Ogre army contains no Mantic Ogres, except for the blokes with blunderbusses and crossbows, and the open handed commander. (For the record - I like all of the Mantic Ogres that I have sen so far, I just don't own that many.)

My Reaper Bones feature in a lot of armies as well, including the Empire of Dust army that is slowly taking shape. (Going slow because I keep changing what I want in it....)

Started off with Elves during the KoW2 Kickstarter - saw a couple troops at a local shop and decided to check them out. Bought more via eBay - basically, the starter army box plus 2 troops worth.

Then found a deal on an Ogre starter box, which has since expanded to include Reaper Bones (Giant, 2 regiments of Siege Breakers, and a solo ogre who'll make a regiment with...), a couple Dreamblade Savage Ogres, about 20 Gorkamorka Grots (the blunderbusses should look right at home beside my Boomers), 6 Pirate Goblins (same), a couple troops of WHFB Goblin Wolf Riders, and a DeeZee Miniatures Mammoth.

If I get those Ogres finished, I may raid my Bones collection for an 'Orc' army - got enough Orcs, Gnolls, and Bugbears there to cover at least 1K in allies.

There is not this idea.

I'm really discovering how true this is. And it's legit exciting to find a use for those little models i picked up over the years just because they looked neat.

And a use for the cannon shaped pencil sharpeners I've had for years now.

True in our group also.

My group has always played evil armies, but strangely we're all starting good guys now.

Basilea, Elves, and Dwarfs.

Maybe the cleaner rules put us in a more positive mood.

I also felt bad for buying GW products to use in Mantic's game. So I started a Basilean army using about 95% Mantic models. It would be 100%, but they don't have phoenixes..

Playing: Droids (Legion), Starks (ASOIAF), BB2
Working on: Starks (ASOIAF), Twilight Kin (KoW). Droids (Legion)

I'm only just now undercoating and preparing to paint the undead mega army that I received from the kickstarter.

I already have plans for Twilight Kin, Kingdoms of Men, Bastalean (sp?), Brotherhood, and Varangur armies.

My roommate has the same damn problem.

Oh, I certainly vote with my dollar, but the problem is that that is not enough. The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

Well, I had multiple Fantasy armies, so it's not fair really. But by combining various sources I have:
Orcs (WFB Orcs)
Goblins (WFB Goblins)
Twilight Kin (LOTR Mordor)
Ogres (PP Trollbloods and LOTR Goblins as Red Goblins)
Varangur (WFB Chaos)
Kingdoms of Men (LOTR Rohan and RBG Men, as well as Historical Celts, Vikings and Normans)
Dwarves (WFB and Mantic Dwarves)
Undead (Mantic and WFB Undead)
Elves (LOTR Elves and Ents)

I think that's it. I have plans for a Salamander and Trident Realms force which I will merge into a Beast Themed Forces of Nature force when Mantic release the plastics.

At the game last night, one of the players pointed out that it isn't just people adding a second army - their main armies are getting wider, more options being added.

The armies have lost the One List method that we used when playing Warhammer - folks are adding and changing out options. The Twilight Kin army that Jon fields today may not be the one that he fields next week.

It looks like the 500 point 'sideboard' that we made part of our league is finally getting used. (2,000 point army, 1,500 of which is kept from battle to battle, the other 500 used for changing things around or adding allies.)

Then there is the monthly Beer Phase League game, where there is no set army - so if Jon fields Ogres instead of Twilight Kin the victory or loss (well, loss... sorry Jon) counts toward the Beer Board. After each player finishes their turn, they drink a Dixie cup of beer, so as the League Night continues, the Generals get drunker.... (Don't blame me... this was my good lady's idea. )

In theory there will be some sort of prize at the end of the year....

The Auld Grump - sadly, I get more ruthless as I get drunker....

Ogres are the army I'm working on now, but I have a big Elf army in a couple boxes, and the Bloodmire Legion ready to go next. On top of that, I have Reaper and more plans for a nature army, and I really like the idea of the "Northern Alliance" coming in the next expansion, the Night-Stalkers and Trident Realms in Uncharted Empires, and I still have that nagging 'federated states' Kingdoms of Men idea in the back of my head.

Gotta finish the Ogres first though. Little steps.

I've got an extensive Brotherhood army, KoM army that's more of a starter/introductory army, the core of a Herd/Nature army, and a decent sized Varangur army. It's good to have enough armies to be able to field different play styles. I also like that there's enough variety in the army lists that I can move units around into different armies for variety.

Turns out I can field reasonable armies of Dwarfs, Elves, Kingdoms of Men (and I could even do a second force with ECW figures!), Abyssal Dwarfs, Undead and Ratkin. I have no idea how that happened...

A lot of my figures are based for LotR (25mm round bases), so will be 12 to a regiment base instead of 20, but I (and more importantly, my opponents) can live with that.
