I always hear from people how 30k is so much more balanced/fun than 40k. Well you essentially have 3 armies. You have admech, guard, and 20 flavors of marines. Now marines are a bit different, but its more like formation bonuses rather than whole codex rewrites, so that cuts the balance chore way way down. If suddenly they had to make rules for existing models in 40k for 30k, do you think the game itself (not models or collection reasons) would tank? Do you think GW has what it takes to balance all the other armies?

There is no "mabye" answer. Its an opinion question. You either think it would suffer, or it wouldn't. Even if its just a bit more one way than the other.

warhammer 40k mmo. If I can drive an ork trukk into the back of a space marine dread and explode in a fireball of epic, I can die happy!

To answer your final question - NO!
If GW are doing it it would be an absolute fethin disaster - formations and the people who supported the concept should be kept as far away from the HH as possible!
If FW were doing it (under the direction of alan bligh) i'd be well happy with it - points costs would go up, stupid rules would get excluded and formations wouldn't apply any more - just look at the rules for apoc games in the back of HH 1 betrayal; eldar titan holo-feilds give the titan the shrouded USR.

I've tried talking to people about 'homebrewing' lists for xenos in 40k but they seem insistent on using their codex 'as is' while plundering the other rulebooks for the best rules and formation bonusses possible, so it's a waste of time and effort imho.

There's two flavours of Imperial Army and the Adeptus Mechanicum is also quite diverse in its lists. Plus there's also the Questoris Familia list, which is quite distinct in its own way.

Fastest way right now to let people play Xeno races in a 30k setting is to use the Battles in the Age of Darkness rules, so no Unbound bs, no formation or special detachment bs, instead everybody uses the same restriction as the rest of 30k: use a force organisation chart, Lords of War restricted to games of 2000 pts and up, costing no more than 25% of the army total.

Brook has the right of it. No decurons or anything silly like that. I normally play my 30k armies against 40k armies but I haven't actually played against any formation type things lately. Prior to formations the games were fairly even, especially maelstrom games.

If you dont short hand your list, Im not reading it.
Example: Assault Intercessors- x5 -Thunder hammer and plasma pistol on sgt.
or Assault Terminators 3xTH/SS, 2xLCs
For the love of God, GW, get rid of reroll mechanics. ALL OF THEM!

Aye, use Age of Darkness to play 40k forces. Keeping things structured doesn't half help a lot at keeping the crapulance down.

Also, Daemons can be used as a full blown list in 30k - they don't need to be used as allies (Use the rules for Samus or the stinky nurgle fellow with the big gob whose name escapes me)

At the same time, I like that they're not trying to put everything into it. Who knows - we may see something for orks supporting the 'Beast Arises" setting?
