Hi all,

Just wanted to pop in and ask if there were any published rules for vehicle design in Warhammer 40k 2nd Edition. I thought I saw mention of some that appeared in a Citadel Journal at one point, but can't recall.

My old gaming buddies and I are starting to play 2nd Edition again, and would like to convert some of the modern 40k vehicle models back to that edition of the game. If nothing published, does anyone have any online links to fan-made guidelines?

Thanks in advance.

Vehicles were basically useless deathtraps in 2nd anyway.

You want the dark millennium supplement and the vehicle cards that came with it. EBay should help.

Thanks JamesY,

I've got the Dark Millennium book, and it lists point values for an assortment of vehicle weapons, but doesn't go beyond that.

Were any other articles published on the subject?

The individual vehicle rules were on A5ish cards, and then later in codices to be photocopied and printed, so you will need to search for the ones you have the vehicles for. You might be able to find them on google images.

If you wanted to translate models that didn't exist then, I'm not sure about any guidelines from citadel, try adapting the rules to fit and experiment with the points, I.e. for a vindicator, use predator armour and replace the turret with a demolisher cannon from the IG book. You might be able to make easy cards with a bit of cutting and pasting.

I think what you are after were the Vehicle design rules from the White Dwarf magazine. The were reprinted in Warhammer 40K Chapter Approved: Second Book of the Astronomican 2001

That VDR was for 3rd ed, not 2nd ed.

2nd ed was a very different game from what players have come to know as 40k today (which is 3rd ed v5 or so).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

Vehicles were fragile in 2nd, just as they are now. The only difference is that transports had death results that stated "all passengers are killed". I never bought a Rhino until 3rd, needless to say.

There was a design system for 2nd Ed Datafax vehicles published in Inquisitor #13. At the time Inquisitor/Armorcast was licensed by GW, and the Datafaxes that they published were all "GW Approved", so it is a reasonable place to start.

I posted some Datafaxes here http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/654481.page
