Have started to collect a deamon army been wanting to collect them for a while just buying bits at a time rather than buying to much at once to paint and getting overwhelmed and stopping. So far I have 20 plague bearers with there champion bearer and musician and a herald of nurgle painted up looking good all besides the herald as I just don't like the model much. Have 20 deamonettes glued and ready for painting and will get 6 flamers end of the week maybe next week.

I don't care about how good they are (as long as they are useable) as much as how good the models look so what next? Any thoughts?
Was thinking the blue scribes just because I love the model and maybe 20 converted flesh hounds with the 3 headed dog in charge

Not to much of a fan of khorne model wise so I think the hounds will probably be the only unit of khorne I have just so I can cry havoc and let loose the dogs of war :p.

At my desk

Plague Bearers and Daemonettes are certainly the two solid troops (Horrors are only any good as Warp Charge batteries and you don't like Khorne). Blue Scribes are an okay HQ, they're not the best but if you like the model go ahead. I personally don't like Flamers, but some people swear by them. Heralds are excellent in general.

As for what to get next? There's a few things I'd go for:
Soul Grinder - Super killy, a must have.
Screamers - Very fast and annoying.
Daemon Prince - (This one's a maybe) Choose a god for your play style and run with it.
Heralds - The more the merrier, am I right guys?

If I've missed anything important I'm sure my fellow Dakkanauts will help.

3000pts Blood Angels (4th Company) - 2000pts Skitarii (Voss Prime) - 2500pts Imperial Knights (Unnamed House) - 1000pts Imperial Guard (Household Retainers)

2000pts Free Peoples (Edlynd Fusiliers) - 2000pts Kharadron Overlords (Barak Zilfin) - 500pts Ironweld Arsenal (Edlynd Ironwork Federation) - 1000pts Duardin (Grongrok Powderheads)

Wargaming's no fun when you have a plan!

Get fast attack. they are easily the best units in the daemons codex

Soul grinders are nice looking and reckon another 3 heralds won't go a miss

As for fast attack thinking seekers so far after my hounds I think

Seekers of Slaanesh, Screamers, Soul Grinders, Demon Princes, Lord of Change and Be'lakor are some models you might want to look into.

Blue scribes are pretty lacklustre, especially compared to all the fanstastic HQ choices we have.

Anything that lives in FA (except for furies) are great.

Grinders are brilliant and you could do significantly worse than automatically taking 3 in every list you make.

Any of the chariots are useable, but none are great unless you build your list around them.

Crushers are pretty sub par when bought in a list, but as a summon they're fantastic. Pretty much all our elites play second fiddle to their FA counterparts, though screamers are worth a mention if you need to burn something out of cover since a unit of 3 is only 69 points and will do a number on anyone who's not in power armour.

But really, the thing that sets the tone (and power) of your list is the HQ slots. Don't waste it on junk like the blue scribes, even if their model is pretty cool.

If you like Nurgle but not the heralds, consider Nurgle princes! daemon princes are normally pretty expensive for what you get, but a wined Nurgle prince can get a 2+ cover save pretty easily.

ATTENTION
. Psychic tests are unfluffy. Your longing for AV is understandable but misguided. Your chapter doesn't need a separate codex. Doctrines should go away. Being a "troop" means nothing. This has been a cranky service announcement. You may now resume your regularly scheduled arguing.

A skull cannon i find is a must our deamons have a good init but are squishy so giving them a form of grenades is very useful plus a large s8 ignore cover blast is good on its own and for the grenade effect you dont even have to kill something for it to work just hit.

The princes are alot of points for what you want deamon prince + nurgle+wings+lvl3 psyche is around 250-300pts mark lot of points but I have seen a decent model for it so it may sneak in to my list and seen some other models that will look great for heralds of slannesh and nurgle .

But will paint up the 20 deamonettes next then the 6 man squad of flamers gives me a bit of time to mull it over.

Lots of choices although knowing my luck gw will bring out another codex before I am half way through and feck something up

Agreed. While fun, Tzheralds are just so ungodly amazaballs in comparison... A Disk Tzherald w/Lv3 makes for a solid leader to throw into a large unit of Screamers.

Don't discount Furies at all!

Slaany Furies are cheap, fast and throw out a very respectable number of S4 Rending attacks.
Tzeentchian Furies on the other can play the role of eternal tarpit like no other unit in our entire codex. A unit you don't like? Drown them in a cheap cloud of buffed Furies that can additionally re-roll invuln saves of 1's!

Just don't ever make them Khornate...

Typically, you take Slaanesh + Baleful Torrent for speedy burning. Tzeentch is for added resilience, and again typically does best w/Torrent, though if you have plenty of Prescience spells handy, don't discount the effectiveness of Warp Gaze.
Nurgle is only of value when taking the Phlegm Bombardment and sitting back to the role of long ranged field artillery.

Khannons are decent, likely the most useful of our chariots. Burning Chariots in pairs can cause some pretty good havoc, but solo ones are typically just an easy kill for your opponent.
The Slaany ones are okay'ish, but the vehicle squadron rules outright kill their potential effectiveness.

'Curshers led by Karanak are simply put, disgustingly good. Make sure to take the unit champ w/Axe of Khorne for the added threat of possible Instant Death attacks.

Seekers should always have a Slaany Herald w/Exalted Locus leading them. At which point, they're pretty much a 'point-and-click' unit vs. anything that's not a hardcore Deathstar or Super Heavy/GMC.

Screamers can be augmented to enjoy a re-rollable 2++ save, however that's being pretty damn lame... A really fun support for the unit is a Disk Tzherald w/Prescience + 2 rolls on Malefic + Mutating Warpsword.
The Screamers can thus be given re-rolls to-hit on their single-shot ap2 attacks, while the Tzherald is pretty decent at turning enemy Sergeant equivalents into fresh Chaos Spawn!

Just use the Blue Scribes model to count as a Tzherald.

Typically you want to take a Greater to open up like-marked Princes as Heavy Support options, plus a cast of supporting Heralds. Overall, Heralds are probably in the running for the best support characters in the entire game!
Between their Locii abilities + psychic powers and Gifts such as cheap ap2 ccw's, 'The Good Book', Portalglyph, etc... You can really turn otherwise average units into true terrors.
