Hello all, new to forum (and hobby really) and just after some recommendations or tutorials on how to paint the dwarves from the Ironhold set. I've started the undead side and found a few good tutorials for them, so should be ok, but just starting to arm myself with knowledge on how to tackle the dwarves. My painting ability is low, so after something quick and easy. Thanks!

Welcome to Dakka!

The quickest way to get Dwarves (and Undead) that look good together en masse is to apply all the base colours to the right areas (so basically leather, silver, steel, skin and beards on the Dwarves, bone, armour, cloth and weapons on the Undead) then apply a wash of a dark brown or black over the whole model; this will define all the recesses and provide instant shading, and give them a great 'realistic' and grimy look that fits both factions quite well, With this method and some practice, you can get 10 models from undercoated to finished in under an hour, including drying time (you can use a low-power, mid-heat hairdryer to speed the drying along if you need to).

If you're using GW paints, you want Agrax Earthshade or Nuln Oil, if you're using Army Painter then I think it's Dark Tone and Strong Tone that you're after. Not sure on the alternatives.

I find that applying a black or dark brown primer spray, letting it dry and then lightly dust it wit another spray of white or light grey helps immensely, guiding you in applying the base colors as you can easily see where different textures, belts, clothes etc, change on the model.
