Hey fellas. This summer I am going to be in England for work (London area). I am debating on going to Warhammer World. My question being is it worth the trip from London? I will be able to dedicate a full day to it should I go. I wont be traveling with my army though. So unfortunately I wont be able to game there.

Yes, most assuredly.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

Just had some friends (hardend WM/H players) come back from there and they really sung its praises.

Not been myself for a few years but i'm told the miniatures hall, now £7 a visit, is even worth it! The rest is free by the way.

For the sake of a short train ride/drive, go for it!

Check the times carefully before you visit because it's not open as long as you'd think on the weekend (like 10am-5pm), since access is via a shop.

That said, the museum is supposedly pretty impressive (though it does cost £7.50 to get in) and the food in Bugmans is pretty decent too.

The main GW shop doesn't do anything special, but you should be able to get any FW stuff made the same day.

It's maybe a 4 hour train ride from London, so it's maybe worth seeing what else you can see up there. There's a war museum, and plenty of other gaming companies nearby (Foundry, Warlord, Mantic), and Wallaton park is also home to the Wayne Manor from one of the Batman films.

If you book far enough in advance, there's a travellodge at Wallaton Park from about £20 ($30) to make a weekend of it, and it's on a carvery so you can get an all-you-can-eat breakfast

Go for it. It's less than 2 hours on the train each way, cost you ~£30 if you book a couple of weeks in advance.

Just to play Devil's Advocate, there are many worthwhile militaristic day trips in and near London to actual historical places, like real castles and warships and so on, so I would advise going to Warhammer World only if you are a particular GW enthusiast or if you have loads of time to spare. (I've been thinking myself of visiting but I live over here so it isn't a once in a lifetime kind of opportunity.)

I'm not trying to put you off, just pointing out that there are many competing places you could go.

It is definately worth a look in nowadays, it might cost £7:50 to look at the displays but I think its worth it if you are into this sort of thing.

You will need a whole day if you are coming from london, the trains can be horrendous also so leave early !!

So its possible to get from London to Nottingham and back in one day? Not too bad.

South East London

I would also agree it is well worth a visit but if you are only in London a short while it will eat up one of your days and there is a lot to see in London.

I go up to Warhammer World from London a couple of times a year but usually take my army with me and stay a couple of days.

My advice would be to book your tickets well in advance as it makes a huge difference in price and it is often cheaper to buy 2 single tickets as opposed to a return ticket.

I also travel 1st class - not because I'm a snob or anything but because it's only on average £7 more expensive and you get way more space, free breakfast and it's just much nicer.

In terms of Warhammer World itself, there probably isn't enough for a full day if you don't have your army, maybe half a day but there is still a lot of fun stuff to do in Nottingham so it's worth spending some of your day there too.

As for the £7.50 entry fee, that's almost the cost of a beer in some parts of London so really isn't much at all and you'll find food and drink way cheaper than London in Nottingham so will probably end up saving money!

The train journey itself is pretty good, about 2 hours each way, which again you'll realise is amazing after spending a week in London where it takes you an hour to travel 6 miles....

Be aware though that travelling up to warhammer World and back is pretty knackering so I'd book your train for first thing in the morning and probably aim to get back to London before 5pm or after 7pm to avoid the hell of rush hour.

But yes if you have some spare time definitely go, and the shop itself has some lovely exclusive products and you get to see all the Forge World models built and in the flesh.

Worth noting there's now a tram from the back of the train station to the street WHW is on, and the same tram will take you back to the town square to see Notts itself, in under 30mins.

If you do decide to go, and fancy a game, I have a couple of friends living nearby who between them could lend you an (Imperial) army of your choice to have a go using their massive scenic tables. They'd happily play you.

Definitely worth popping in for the day.
I can comfortably drive from Portsmouth to there, spend the day and come back.
Although, most of my working day is driving.

But I don't think I've spoken to anyone who hasn't enjoyed it.

It's possible to get to one end of the country and back again in a day and still have time for a shop, bite to eat etc. It's a very small country

It is worth while, if you're really into warhammer. The new stores do have exclusive products, some well worth a look. Depending on when you are here, I could meet you for a game and lend you an army, if BC isn't available, having already made the same offer.

If you're in Wales maybe. England isn't quite that small.

£18 for a G+T last time I went out for a drink before Christmas.

A fiver's more usual for a drink though.

I was referring to using the trains, 9hrs from Newquay to Newcastle, first train leaves after 10am.

Driving is a different matter, although depending upon how south east you are, I'd guess you didn't stick to 70mph, takes me 3 hours getting from Nottingham to the lakes.

I wouldn't use public transport if you paid me... this isn't France lol

I't probably cheaper to hire a car and drive anyway.

And not once did I go above the speed limit honest officer (not a speed freek honest)

It's well worth a visit! Mrs Deadnight and I were down over Xmas to go to a gig at rock city (great venue by the way) and the morning after, since we were in the area, she took pity on me and drove me down to go and see warhammer world.

And I was hugely impressed. The rhino at the front door.

the two space marines - one on sentry duty outside, and the other under the stairs (cover save obviously!)

The venue itself. Bright, well lit. Great gaming tables.

Bugmans. Menus was brilliant. We were only there an hour, and we're driving, so didn't really get time for beer and breakfast unfortunately (so I need another trip down there!)

Couple of shops, including a forgeworld store. Nice.

And the exhibition. Five halls, including Aos, a two story (people scale!) city scape fight with the entire ultramarine chapter fighting a horde of chaos (awesome diorama - so much love and care went into this - it was brilliant) and various other dioramas and themed displays. Lots of heresy stuff and so on. Exhibition costs £7.50 but it was well worth it.

Overall rating is yes, I'd recommend it, and yes, I'd go back again.

If your pre in Nottingham, go and see it. But it's a trek from London. I don't know if I'd recommend thst - London has plenty cool stuff of its own.
