I have an AMD Radeon 6670 HD that is no longer recognized by my PC OR is being incorrectly recognized as a Intel HD card. I've cleaned the card of any dust and the port as well. The fan runs when plugged in, but it's not being recognized. I've uninstalled and reinstalled drivers and the Catalyst program to no avail. My last resort would be to do a factory restore, but my CD drive isn't reading my Windows install disc...

Any ideas?

Might try to open the case up and check the SATA cables for the optic drive to make sure they are secure. could also get into BIOS(start the computer and press F2 or delete key, whatever the 2 or 3 second window tells you to press to get into BIOS mode, and check to see if part of the boot order(easy to do) includes the optic drive. This makes sure that during start up the computer knows to check the optic drive before starting up the operating system for the PC.

How would I do this? The SATA cables all look fine to me. I don't know how to make sure the optic drive is loading?

If you think your important, in the great scheme of things. Do the water test.

Put your hands in a bucket of warm water,
then pull them out fast. The size of the hole shows how important you are.
I think we should roll some dice, to see if we should roll some dice, To decide if all this dice rolling is good for the game.

That its using the Intel graphics is saying the system's going back to use the on board graphics for whatever reason. Could be a connectivity issue (can't see the card, so it defaults) or a driver one (which may be OS related given you've installed the drivers from scratch).

In the BIOS there's an option for Boot Sequence. You can move the Boot priority in there. If you change it so the ODD's the first thing that's checked then you can Boot from the disk. However if you put the OS media into the drive it should be picking that up and Booting from that by default IIRC. What's the system type?

The usual sequence of troubleshooting for this would be:

* Circumstances/ history of the fault / any environmental changes?
* Remove all peripherals bar effected components.
* Uninstall/ Reinstall Video Drivers
* Attempt System Restore
* Confirm if occurs in Safe Mode with Networking (which honestly would come before those two, but well, may as well check anyway)
* Update BIOS
* Run any Pre-Boot diagnostics (though most don't check for external cards, bar connectivity)
* Reseat Card

If at that point its still not working then try a card in a known good system and vice versa. Try installing Ubuntu in a partition and see if it has the same fault. Check under miscellaneous devices in the BIOS whether the card's picked up there (not all BIOS have this). If not detected in BIOS/ not working in Ubuntu then replace the card and/or Motherboard. If is detected in BIOS/ working with alt-OS then its an OS issue. If not resolved by System restore then OS reinstall, pending further relevant troubleshooting (based on the system type).

Most of the folks I speak to regarding IT issues have warranty and use Company Images with backups though, so the nuclear options are easier in those cases where necessary. =/

Onboard is taking over, as said.
Check the settings in the BIOS, and make PCI-E (or whatever it uses) as priority.
