I Played 40k rond about third and fourth ed hen fliers where rare and apoc things mostly, my army was a homebrew space marine chapter, and so i am ondering is it worth me getting back into it when i don't have fliers, antifliers centurions or any of he ne shinies and neither the cash flo or iinclinatin to buy them, i have several land raiders, rhinos one lascannon predator lots of termies, a couple assault marines, a lot of tactical as well as few devastator squads, is it worth me trying to play or is it a case of being laughed out of the place?

Depends on what your local meta and potential opponents are playing, or are happy to play with.

If they're chasing the meta, you might find find yourself in the deep end and struggling, unless you buy into the new shinies. If, however, they're like you, and prefer 'de-escalation' and play down, or if you can find other like minded players from that era who are happy to play 'grass leagues', then you'll probably be fine.

40k has a huge spectrum - there is no 'one answer to rule them all'.

Deadnight makes some excellent points. If you still have all the rules resources from when you left you could see if there is any interest in playing under the ruleset your collection was formed under as well.

Potentially...

Check out your local Facebook 40k and gaming groups too - potentially a good window to use as well. You just need to say what you have, what kind of games you're looking to get into (ie powered down, relaxed, no meta-chasing power builds etc) and if anyone plays, or if anyone who posts knows anyone who plays those games (not everyone is online after all...)

Ultimately, 40k is whatever you want it to be.
