Hi guys,

After a gaming show I took a punt on the infinity starter set. I really love the manga style and want these miniatures to be the best I can do.

How do these miniatures turn out without an air brush? Nearly all photos I've seen seem to use airbrush blending and shading and it fits the aesthetics really well. So my question is should I give it a go?

Yes, give it a go. I'd assume the most common way to paint Infinity miniatures is with a brushes. And they turn out pretty well, for example you could look into the Community Showcasing thread.

I don't use an Air brush. You can see my USA in my sig or in the Community Showcase.

Airbrush is by far, not required.

I put a tutorial here for my style involving washes:

A friend who is a commission painter told me some very good tips about Infinity models in general. The big thing is that the models themselves are designed as 'cell shaded' to give that outline between armor sections. So starting with a black primer, being ridiculously careful it's the layers and doing near constant touch ups both with paint and a black wash to keep those outlines alive makes all the difference. Airbrush is easier, but it's not impossible with paint.

He also said that highlights have to be even more gradient than with other models to pop in the same way. Something like four levels of brightening as you get closer to the armor edge. That particular result is beyond my skill as a painter, but he's done it and made it look damn good by hand.

Their Grey Fox is pretty awesome as well.

I've wanted them for a while but I couldn't think of uses for them. But now with the RPG...

There's nothing particularly magical about Infinity miniatures. Paint 'em the same way you paint everything else. Just be careful with the finer details.

I painted my Icestorm minis to match the studio paint jobs, but for my actual army, I've not bothered with any of the glowing "anime" nonsense and they look fine to me.
