Subject: Starting Dark Angels, are the TAC squads in DV kitted out properly?

Hey guys,
So, I am starting Dark Angels, well, more of a grand Imperial army. Now that army bundling is a bit more flexible, I can run an army that has bits from all of favs from the Imperium. instead of doing something like a pure Sanguinary Guard army or some such that I was planning back in 5th ed. Anyways, I am looking to pick up DV as a start to this army and a possible start to a Chaos/daemonkin army down the road. So, I am debating if it's worth it to pick up multiple boxes, or just order some individuals off eBay. I figure the bikes are probably the most worthwhile, but I am curious about the tac Marines. Is running a plasma cannon and a plasma rifle, in general, an effective way to run a tac squad? Or is it a waste of points. I have read that tacs aren't the bread and butter they used to be, and although I am not a very competitive player, I still don't want to buy static models if they are running around ineffectively.

Plasma cannons aren't ideal in tactical squads as you can't snap fire them, so if they are foot slogging then you might only fire it twice in a game. The all plasma set up is good for a unit that you use to camp on an objective though, as they can kick out a lot of ap2 shots.

Plasma guns are good.
Plasma pistols are overpriced, and should be avoided.
Plasma cannons are not my favorite heavy, and IMHO the worst option for a tac squad, as they spend a lot of time on the move. If you want to use them, stick them in a dev squad. Still not the best, but should do OKish.

You can combat squad and use the Cannon stationary to camp an objective in your Zone or a few steps ahead and the gun on the move, works pretty well for me!
