Hey guys,
I am a total noob when it comes to infinity, I have always loved the minis and well got suckered into a quick start rule book at a game show and had birthday money lol.
I want to build up both a Nomad and PanOceania force so I can play games with friends who do not have their own force.
I had planned on getting a TAG for both teams and possibly a box of Alguacil's and Fusiliers to help list building.
Is this a good base for a force or should I ignore the TAGs to start with (despite how cool they look)

Alguacile and Fusilier special weapons boxes are great additions. While they're still just basic grunts, a basic grunt HMG in suppressive fire or with a missile launcher and good field of view will still make someone unprepared for it cry.
TAGs change the game a bit but there's no reason to avoid them when starting. They just make the game a bit binary since they cost so much. Like expensive link teams, they're an 'all your eggs in one basket' option. Either the TAG/expensive link goes on a rampage and pays for itself, or it dies and you have an uphill battle with what you have left.
Just be aware of what you're getting into with TAGs. You'll also want an Engineer option for each force if you grab a TAG as they can be repaired.

Silly question, what are link teams? Do they operate like squads and share special rules or something?

Link teams are groups of distinct troops who are activated together while one member of that team carries out the order.
Link team link
They get some bonuses but can only be fielded in sector armies (except Tohaa)

They are also more correctly called "fireteams" which is where you will find it in the wiki (and when/if Human sphere for 3rd is released/escapes, all will be included in that book whether they are triad/Haris/nom-nom-tacos or the renamed "core" (standard 3-5 man).

Basic rundown. 3-5 models must stay within 8" of a nominated leader. The leader is who you spend the order on last, so it swaps every time you use someone else. The leader carries out any skills you use, while the team performs the exact same orders, but can only actually carry out movement orders. Anything else is not done. So you spend an order, to a short move, and all 5 models to the same short move. The leader has line of sight, so his second short skill is shoot, which only he performs, the rest sit there idle. The more models in the link, the more bonuses they get. 3 models, everyone gets +1 burst. 4 models, everyone gets Sixth Sense Level 2. 5 models, everyone gets +3BS. While only the leader gets to do anything other than move, all models get these bonuses when reacting. Thematically, you have a group of guys moving together and covering each other. Think of them like a little spec ops team. Sniper steps up, assured he's got protection from 4 other guys, he takes more careful aim (+3BS) and fires more rounds at the enemy (+1 burst).

According to Mayacast, HS will be available at Adepticon, so expect orders to start being taken sometime in the next few weeks.
