Hey Dakka,
New user here, but a relatively experienced player at 8/17 of my years spent involved in the hobby.

I've got a crazy idea for a 40k Boardgame, and wanted to get some thoughts from the community regarding playability.

-Take a game like Necromunda: skirmish level conflict, and combine it with the close-quarters fighting of Space Hulk,
and you're pretty much looking at the concept I'm working with.

Players would control D6 miniatures each and fight across a 6x5 square board, *densely* packed with interactive terrain.
I'm thinking one-use weapon pick-ups, emplaced weapons, barrels that explode, panels to open doors, traps etc.

I wanted to build the board from cities of death floor tiles, and the numbers work for a 6x5., walls may be more expensive to acquire, but I'll address that later...

-What do you all think?
-would you play as a pickup game?
-would you rather play player vs player, or vs an 'automated' enemy such as tyranids?
-should I develop a team of default mini's for players to use? or set a point value?

-any and all comments appreciated,
happy wargaming

Eh, Killteam is honestly better than a boargame. I wouldn't reinvent the wheel.

6x5 in 28mm is gonna take aaaaaaaaaaaaaages to traverse.

And d6 models per side? Sounds like a great way to lose before the game even begins. "I got 1 guy, my opponent got 6. Oh well, I lose."

Nice idea, but I agree with the criticism above. It needs to be equal for a start. 2'x2' would be better. A fistful of kung fu might be worth you looking at to get some ideas for interacting with the environment.

Sorry guys, maybe I wasn't clear enough?
-I'm going for a kill team esk vibe with this, but on a smaller boardsize, as a 4x4 table feels huge with only a handful of models aside.

5x6 of the cities of death tiles? not feet, literally a board maybe 18inch square? and lots of line of sight blocking or obscuring terrain. movement wouldn't be standard 40k style, but by tiles in a move space hulk style if that makes sense?

D6 aside meant one D6 determines both player's squad sizes, I'd already thought about that...

I've got a vision in mind, but I'm struggling to communicate it a little, so if anything is unclear, by all means throw questions at me...

-a fistful of kung fu?? googling now....
