Camo is has a few ways it works. One of the ways is breaking up your outline. So you can’t tell that the herd of zebras is composed of individuals, it just looks like a giant mass. It’s also why we get things like dazzle camouflage on things like battleships. You aren’t going to hide the thing, but we can make it hard to
ID or pick out of the fleet.
What are you painting?
I do my camo like Hollywood bases movies on real-life events. Sure, the underlying theme is there, but it’s a lot flashier and with more explosions. Does it make sense for the power cables
on my snipers’ guns to be bright red and yellow? Nope, but it helps them stand out on the table. The red sashes, topknots, helmets, and accents on my
Eldar rangers don’t serve a practical purpose, but help tie them in chromatically with the rest of my army.
Real camo is boring. And it also works. You forget to shoot/move those sneaky little guys hiding in the woods. Although sometimes your opponent does as well, so it kinda washes out in the end.
