Ok, so im rethinking my Kill team army as another buddy wanted to give Ad Mech a shot and im not big on running the same army, so i have decided to run a Death Guard Kill team army. The problem is, the only Chaos Space marine stuff i have is 6 generic Marines from the filler boxes (the ones that have 3 dudes in them) and 10 Cultists, and my list uses Plasma Guns, which none of these things have. Heres the list so you know what im doing (its Heralds of Ruin btw)

Spoiler:
Death Guard
Leader
Terminator Champion w/ 2 Lighting Claws and Mark of Nurgle-73

Core
Chaos Marine w/ Mark of Nurgle-20
Chaos Marine w/ Mark of Nurgle-20

Specaial
Chosen w/ Mark of Nurgle, Plasma Gun and Targeter-45
Plague Marine w/Plasma Gun-39

Total 197

I figured the easiest way to build this was with a Chosen box, which apparently isnt a thing. So, would a normal Chaos Space Marine box (of 10 dudes) get me everything i need here? Im ignoring that one wont be an actual Plague Marine, but looking at the minis im not seeing a huge difference. Also help with the Terminator would be great.

It... really wouldn't be much help. The box only gives one one of each special weapon... so you'd still be short a plasma gun. Though, they do have plasma pistols in there as well, so you could maybe to a bit of conversion work to get two of 'em.

And with your champion... heh, if I'm not mistaken the CSM terminator box has zero lightning claws in it. If you buy the lone terminator lord/sorcerer box, you get one.

If you're going for a full and true WYSIWYG, raiding eBay for bits and cheap models would probably be your best bet. Any of that stuff is easy to find. Or, just buy the loyalist kits to get everything you would need (oh, the sad irony).

Well i've got like 4 Plasma Calivers laying around from my Skitarii, so i can probably do some mucking about to get another in there. As for the Lightning Claws, i just talked to a buddy and hes pretty sure he has at least one, and i think i have an old SM pair laying around somewhere, so thats good.

As far as Chosen goes, how do you model them? I Don't really see a huge difference....

Chosen are just more successful chaos marines. Give them more impressive gear, more pronounced mutations or a fancier colour scheme.

That plan should work out fine. Honestly, after you having said that, I want to pick up some calivers of my own just for the model diversity. Yeah, that'll work great. Seems like you're set.

Chosen: take a standard CSM, and give him bling.

As it stands, other than the DV chosen sculpts (which can be found super cheap on eBay), we have no official Chosen kit. So really you can do with them whatever you like.

Many of our options like that are.... quite lacking in the "has an official kit/design/scheme" department. While potentially frustrating, it can make for a blast with conversions. Ah, the fun of Chaos.

Yes...."fun".....Like Random Tables. Im just glad im going for Death Guard, which is just Chaos Marines with some cabling added on (if i feel like it) It would suck to try and make Alpha Legion

Yes, exactly. That's the beauty behind it: with the glacial pace I kitbash, convert, and paint, my warband will be finally finished about the time the next codex drops. Maybe then aligning with Tzeentch won't be such a fool's errand...

So i just went to my FLGS and bought a box of CSM and a Termi Lord. I have been pleasantly surprised to find that the new Lord has a pair of Lightning Claws in his box, and now to figure out how to magnetize his arms so i can swap his stuff around for a Sorc Lord

Ah, glad to be wrong! I do like that kit, too. I think I've gone through about three of them now.

Magnetizing isn't that bad. Did it on a Helbrute kit not too long ago as a first try and it's not that bad at all. Just grab yourself a pin vice (which is great for drilling those bolter barrels anyway) and matching magnets. Just drill a shallow enough hole, stick the magnet it, and superglue once you're sure. There's tons of guides online for it, too.

For that kit, all it would take is finding a spare terminator shoulder pad (since there's only three) and you're set.
