Hello all,
I've been out of things for a few years but am thinking of getting back into 40k (my inquisimunda gaming isn't fully satisfying the itch any more). I haven't been in the game since just before 6th ed came in.
I've got my models from past gaming but am planning on replacing all my infantry models, so this list is a pre-purchase speculative venture to see if it's going to function in 7th edition.
I've been doing some reading up, it seems like using forgeworld and allies is pretty common now? I've built this list with that in mind.
In happy to receive all comments, although given what I'm building already is pretty competitive (I hope), I'm not always going to take on board everyone's advice. Also probably won't be adding any air cav at 1k but if you have a compelling enough argument, that might change :-)

So, there's some allies, some forgeworld, a mix of dakka, close range and long range threats. No AA - do I need it at 1k?
I'm thinking I'll be using the xenos inquisitor option, in the blob for a chance of long range str10 in turn 1, as the range closes he'll compliment the Autocannons. Thunderer is able to drive 18" on turn 1 for DISTRACTION CARNIFEX fun or demolisher pieplate doom. The command units will be for close range threats.
Thoughts?

only way I would add AA to this is a saber platform group but that can be your next stage..
I would find the points for a Master of Ordnance..(camo netting on the chimeras is not all that usefull anymore way to much ignore cover stuff out there)
Sargents with bolters in the platoon squads is nice
overall is a solid list thou ..

Interesting on the ignore cover front. Hadn't grasped that but now you mention it there has an ignores cover weapon in quite a few of the batreps I've watched, plus ever present markerlights I suppose?

Heavy weapons squad 3x Lascannon = 105 base
Guardsmen toughness and save
Saber Platform 3x Lascannon =150 base
Gains Twin linked, Sky fire,Interceptor, immobile,
artillery toughness and save
I like them a lot better than a heavy weapons squad for Lascannon
and mabey for autocannon not sure there thou

Morfydd - what do you think of rapiers? You can get 3 with 6 crew for 138. I was thinking of a battery when I upgrade to the next points value.

Rapiers are nice no AA capacity
Ordnance which is good for popping things
I like using them and using sabers (two different jobs)
If I have to choose thou its Sabers over Rapiers ..
Sentry guns arnt bad for providing interceptor on a flank and they tend to be cheap for the Heavy bolter variety (also a heavy slot)

On a side note maybe try dropping a commissar and the lever 2 psyker for two level 1s because your just going for divination to re roll anyway. And two seperate psykers means putting one with your melta chimera and the other in your plasma one trying to make those plasma/meltas hit. Also give a good consideraction to switching who gets plasma and melta between the vets and the company command, you really only need 2 meltas go go off to kill armor 14 that fits in your vets perfect (specially with a psyker) when you can also only take 3 plasma guns + the pistol on your Commander and then a flag instead of the commissar for a 12" re roll ld check bubble
I used to run a really similar platoon/veterans ratio but without transports by now I like the idea with the chimeras and if they are all multi lasers I don't see the need for auto cannons at all really, could drop the flamers and use the saved points to give the platoon command meltas/plasmas. I can't say I have any experience with forge world models but looking at the astra militarum 7th ed codex that's been my experience
If your really super new to 7th you should know also that orders are our real friends right now aswell as re rolling to hits in any way we can
P.s. I stand by camo netting 1000% percent, with a low av chimera that net can give you 1 last turn of mobility

Thanks folks, I didn't realise that two level one psykers is better than one level two. I'm probably going to stick with the special/heavy weapons arrangement as 4 melta can also finish off wounded terminator squads etc, while 4 flamers are a lot more versatile than anything else at bs3. Having Autocannons also makes sense to me as it gives my ccs something to give orders to, and they should have good survivability with 16 other bodies between them and the foe.
I used to run cc blobs back in 5th, which is why I'm tempted by the Priest, but is the lack of gtg going to be worth it for rerollable saves/to wound in cc at 1k? Anecdotes welcome. A 20-wound Blob seems brittle to me.

20 wound blob of basic guard is brittle they are still only t-3 wounds ...however as a static gunline its hard to get to/thru as the sheer amount of fire you have to weather to get there ..
I tend to put heavy flamers in CCS and PCS backed by grenade launchers ..(yea i know I am a heratic) but i find the cheapo greanda launcher to be quite useful in a gunline along with a bolter on the sarge..(for gunline )
For a charging blob of conscripts with tallaran desert raider a preist is a must take but that would be a 40 man cheapo blob..(125 points) that is pretty unaffected by terrain ..and can still recive orders..but for this blob who cares its job is to disract and be a tarpit.. at 1500+ games
Automatically Appended Next Post: Now my favorite outfitting for veterans is 2 x Melta, Shotguns, 1x Heavy flamer.Sarge gets a plasma pistol or bolt pistol .(grenadiers+Krak) ..makes for as nasty an assult group as you can get with basic IG ..not counting ogryns /bullgrynns
