Subject: [1850] - Blood Angels - Competitive Infantry list any good?

Hi all,
I've been building a Blood Angel army but I have almost no experience in 40K at all so i'm looking for some pointers for my list and strategy, please help me out if you have any good ideas, I really don't know what to deepsstrike and what not, i'd love to hear your feedback
Dante
Sang. Priest with jump pack, chapter banner and storm bolter
Sang. Guard, 10, with 2x axe and 2x inf.pistol
Tac Squad, 10, with meltagun, heavy flamer and pow.fist in a Drop Pod
Tac Squad, 10, with meltagun, heavy flamer and pow.fist in a Drop Pod
Death Company, 13, with jump packs, 2x pow.fist and 2x pow.sword
Death Company, 12, with jump packs, 2x pow.fist and 2x pow.sword
This gives me 57 man, 37 with jump packs and 20 in drop pods. will this be enough? The enemy's anti tank weapons will be less worth the points spend but i'm dead meat when facing a player that has good AP3 whatevers... And are the Pow.Fists worth the points in the tac squads?

To be honest this list would not fair well against the really competitive lists like gladius, eldar, war convocation, Necrons, tau, Death Stars. You don't have enough units, they are going to be picked off one by one. BA are the weakest space marine faction atm with no access to the new toys. This seems like a fun list but no it won't fair well against very competitive lists. Automatically Appended Next Post: I would spam death company with psyker support. Get a death company squad as big as possible add in a Chaplin and a level 2 psyker give everyone jump packs have maybe 4-5 powerfists the rest with bolt guns and run a bunch of tactical squads holding objectives. Maybe run another cad or formation for more psykers.

Blood angels are the weakest marine army? :( I thought they could be quite quick and lethal before my enemy can do much.. People told me to go for this type of thing if I want to 'alpha strike' and be quick. What is a cad?

Cad is combined arms detachment. And yes they are quick but when you have 9 total units counting dedicated transports and independent characters you will lose to new marines with about 25 or more units because their dedicated transports are free; you will find out that newer marines are stronger. They have access to skyhammer annihilation force which is super strong alpha strike. Your problem is your alpha strike is 1 tactical squad with one melta gun because it only one pod comes in, that's not very strong. The amount of ap 2 out in the meta right now prevents terminators from being competitive so you will have your marines dying a lot. If you want a super strong alpha strike I ally skitarii with blood angels because skitarii have the best guns for cheep and blood Angels with flesh Tearers strike force gives you 6 fast attack slots for 6 drop pods. Then you can fill up your remaining points with death company for close combat.

That sounds good man, I like the thought of more pods and I love the looks of skitarii overall. Thanks for the advice

mey man, while all the points brought up are fair and absolutely true (im switching to my Ravenwing/Deathwing because my friends are playing necrons/new marines) if you like the BA play style and look stick with it brother. In the long run you will have a lot more fun with the hobby playing and collecting the army you like over one that happens to be good in this meta. The meta and Codex's will change, but your stuck with your models lol.
For your alpha strike consider running 2 5 man assult squads with meltas in free drop pods and 2 min tac squads with heavy flamers in pods. That lets you bring in 3 pods turn 1 depending on what you need to deal with. this should leave you with enough points to flesh out either some armoured support (fast vidies) and/or get your death company in and up the field.
Hope this is helpful and good luck!

If you want to spam death company Id start thinking of investing in Astorath. 10-15 DC with him giving rerolls to wound can get pretty brutal. Otherwise Librarians or priests with maybe valours edge for ap2 at initiative.

FYI, I would wait on adding Skitarii to your army until the FAQ is finalized. In the draft version battle brother allies can't use allied drop pods any more.

I play my Blood Angels with an Imperial Knight, but if you are only doing BA then think of formations.
The Baal Strike Force is overall good for the BA, but if you want DC then think of the DC formation I believe that is in the Shield of Baal expansion. Or Look to do the First company formations.
I personally am a fan of the SR and would run that with either ASM/ DC/ SG/Assault Terminators and have Cassor the Damned. He is a dreadnought that can be taken as a troop choice.
I would run the Tac squads in razorbacks for the extra fire power but drop pods are pretty good with them and if you are running 10 man squads then think of doing combat squading them so it splits your 10 man to 5 man squads
Add a Baal Predator if you want for the extra armor support and it has the Lucian engine so it can move fast and fire.
This is all just my opinion though. I would also agree with the others say and stick to your play style and not meta that way you have more fun. I have both a DA and BA armies which I am still building on and enjoy both of them very much. Next I want Necrons .

Perturbed Blood Angel Tactical Marine

The dreadnoughts is where it is at. Try a list like this and see how you like it.
BA Basl strike force
Techmarine w/ servo harness, power weapon
4 furioso dreadnoughts w/ frag cannons, power fist, drop pods
2 5 man tactical squads w/ heavy flamer, drop pods
Iron hands CAD
Techmarine w/ servo harness
2 iron clads w/ heavy lamer, drop pod
2 5 man tac squads w/ melta gun, combi melta, drop pods
Thunder fire cannon w/ drop pod
Gives you 11 drop pods which you can drop all 6 dreads on first turn and have the thunder fire hiding in the backfield some where. Try something like that out.

If dreadnought is the way you want to go then try the Archangel formation from Shield of Baal.
You get
Captain
Chaplin
4 Furioso Dreadnoughts
10 minimal mix units of
Sternguard Veteran Squad
Terminator Assault Squad
Terminator Squad
Vanguard Veteran Squad
This is from 1d4chan on BA tactics.
The Archangels - basically the Archangels FOC when it's almost completely filled up. You need 10 veteran/terminator squads (in any combination), a Terminator Captain (or Karlaen) a Terminator Chaplain and four Furioso Dreadnoughts. Doing this via the Archangels FOC would have left you two slots, but this is better, if a bit more demanding since you can't take anything less. You not only get the reduced deep strike scatter and re-roll reserves bonus, but your company also is Stubborn and units from it may be rolled from reserve on the first turn!
Your call on how you want to do it. But seriously if you are going to play BA I would look hard at the formation cause they have a lot of them and the only ally unit I ever took was a Imperial Knight.
