Here is a list I made for a local Highlander tournament. For those not familiar, here is the tournament rules breakdown:Armies will consist of 1500 points or less, and may be constructed utilizing any of the following options:

o Players may utilize no more than 2 ‘Detachments’. Furthermore each Detachment is considered unique (0-1)
and may only be taken once. Formations, Data Slates, and Codex Detachments are all considered
‘Detachments’ for the purposes of this event and are restricted to the 0-1 limit.

o All units in the army are unique (0-1).

o Troops units lose their unique status if the army includes all types of Troops units available to it.

o Units with the same name but from different Factions will be considered the same unit. Likewise, extremely
similar units (from the same or different Factions) will be considered the same unit.

o Special/Unique Characters are considered the same unit as indicated by their background and/or title.

o Army selections that would force a player to violate the unique status of a unit are not allowed.

o All Battle Brother allies are treated as Allies of Convenience.

o Lords of War are allowed in this event. Each army may only contain a maximum of one (1) Lord of War regardless of
how many might be available from various Detachments, which must be bought from the army's points total as
normal, and may not make up more than 33% of the army's total points cost.

Based upon these guidelines, here is the list I came up with. Comments and suggestions are welcome. I have not played many games with Tau so my list may be pretty weak.

In addition to what I have in this list, I also have access to the following models that I could include:

20 Gun Drones
1 TX4 Piranha
6 Pathfinders w/rail rifles

I appreciate any input. I know I need some Broadsides, but I just have not managed to get any yet. My current collection is items I have acquired through trade or deals too good to pass up.

List itself is not bad
I love highlander games because it levels the playing field a bit and causes you to take units you might not otherwise take..
(Vespids and stealth suits are not normally considered in most tourneys)

So fire Warriors with Pulse Carbines for pinning etc?
or Pulse Rifles as a Mini gun Line?

Stock Pulse Rifles for a small gun line. I figure them and the Kroot can camp objectives within my deployment and try to shield the Hammerheads from anything getting close. The piranhas, vespids, and stealth suits push up the field, each taking a 1/3 of the board as their zone. The commander and crisis suits will probably deep strike where needed. And the riptide will just do what they seem to normally do.

You've got virtually no markerlights here. There's really not much excuse to not have a Mark'O in a drone unit and a unit of pathfinders.

If no mark'o, why not add a bunch more crisis suits and convert the commander into a buffmander?

I'd junk the Vespid for pretty much anything else. More crisis and/or more pathfinders, though 2 more pathies and another fusion Pirahna wouldn't be a bad choice either.

The shield drones on the stealth team should definitely either be replaced with marker drones or simply replaced altogether.

Find the points for a turret with your missile of choice for the fire warriors.

A skyray would be nice, but you don't appear to have one.

The main reason for only having the pathfinders for marker lights is that I expect with a highlander type tournament that most will run CADs and probably include a Lord of War. Since I do not have a Lord of War, I was focusing on having as much vehicle and higher strength items as I could. I know it would be nice to have more models in each unit, but I was also trying to get as many different units as possible while still allowing for some invulnerable saves. I know people don't seem to like the stealth suits outside of the OSC or the Vespid. But the few games I have played, both have done pretty well for me. I do not have a turret for the fire warriors. I have not bought any of the new kit since i already have like 60 fire warriors.
