Hi Dakka Dakka

I am new to 40k and I'm currently putting together an army of violent space racists. I would love your feedback on it, if you have the time.

I don't yet own all the models below, but...
I DO have the inquisitor detachment, the techmarine on bike, the ven dread, a drop pod, 1 tac squad and a rhino.... (about 800 points currently)
I DON'T have the bike squad, the 2nd tac squad, the librarian and honor guard, or the aircraft.

However, I'd like to buy future models with the aim of building my force towards something I think would be BOTH fluffy AND exciting to play.

Here goes:

+++ Inquisitor Belicor and the Red Scorpions Airborne Strike Force (1846pts) +++

++ Inquisition: Codex (2013) (Inq Inquisitorial Detachment) (296pts) ++

+ HQ (94pts) +

Ordo Xenos Inquisitor (94pts) [Carapace Armour, Conversion Beamer, 3x Servo Skulls, Venom Talon, Warlord]

+ Elites (202pts) +

Inquisitorial Henchmen Warband (202pts) [2x Jokaero Weaponsmith]
Acolyte [Carapace Armour, Hot Shot Lasgun, Laspistol]
Acolyte [Carapace Armour, Hot Shot Lasgun, Laspistol]
Acolyte with Special Weapon [Carapace Armour, Laspistol, Plasmagun]
Acolyte with Special Weapon [Carapace Armour, Laspistol, Plasmagun]
Chimera [Heavy Bolter, Heavy Bolter, Psybolt Ammunition, Storm Bolter]

++ Space Marines: Codex (2015) (Combined Arms Detachment) (1550pts) ++

Chapter Tactics * [Red Scorpions]

+ HQ (285pts) +

Magister Sevrin Loth (175pts)

Techmarine (110pts) [Bolt Pistol, Power Axe, Servo-harness, Space Marine Bike]

+ Elites (300pts) +

Honour Guard (175pts) [Chapter Banner]
Chapter Champion [Boltgun, Tears of the Scorpion (Sword)]
Honour Guard [Tears of the Scorpion (Sword)]
Honour Guard [Tears of the Scorpion (Sword)]
Honour Guard [Tears of the Scorpion (Sword)]

Venerable Dreadnoughts (125pts)
Venerable Dreadnought [Multi-melta]
Power Fist [Storm Bolter]

+ Troops (535pts) +

Bike Squad (135pts)
Biker Sergeant [Bolt Pistol]
Space Marine Biker [Bolt Pistol]
Space Marine Biker [Bolt Pistol]
Space Marine Biker with Special Weapon [Grav-gun, Twin-Linked Boltgun]
Space Marine Biker with Special Weapon [Grav-gun, Twin-Linked Boltgun]

Tactical Squad (205pts) [Plasma Gun, Rhino, 9x Space Marines]
Space Marine Sergeant [Bolt Pistol, Combi-plasma, Melta Bombs, Narthecium]

Tactical Squad (195pts) [Meltagun, 9x Space Marines]
Drop Pod [Storm Bolter]
Space Marine Sergeant [Bolt Pistol, Combi-melta, Narthecium]

+ Heavy Support (430pts) +

Fire Raptor Gunship (225pts)

Stormraven Gunship (205pts) [Extra Armour, Twin-linked Heavy Bolter, Twin-linked Lascannon]

Theorycrafted Tactics:

The servo skulls are placed before deployment for area control to counter scouts (who can't deploy or infiltrate near them)

The Inquisitor is basically a sniper and would find a crow's nest or cover to shoot from (+1 cover save from techmarine). His conversion beamer is magnetized so it could be swapped to make him a psyker instead.
His shooty warband move up field in the chimera for objectives, similar to the Rhino plasma squad.

The drop pod melta squad take an objective or nuke vehicle or whatever.

Sevrin Loth, his Honour Guard and the Venerable Dreadnought are embarked on the Stromraven and will assault from reserve to ruin people's day.

The Techmarine Biker starts with the Grav Bike Squad for objective capture, repairs and general vehicle smashing.

The Gunship MIGHT become two Stormtalons to make it a half-the-$-price Storm Wing formation, but I love the Fire Raptor model and it looks like it would just chew through things in a most entertaining way.

---

I go back and forward on what I am trying to build so often. I'd like to say "THIS IS IT" and start working towards it.

What are your thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

No comments or ideas? :(

Did I provide too much info? Too little?

Or maybe the units aren't seenoften enough tor people to have an opinion?

I think that people aren't replying because it seems like there is not much that you can change - you seem to be quite sure about what you want.
To me it seems that you don't have the sheer number of shots on the table at the beginning of the game to deal with horde armies (Orks, Tyranids etc)
I would swap out the fire raptor for two stormtalons, and start the other models (originally in the fire raptor) on the table. Switch out the multi melta on the dred for an assault cannon. Not only will this be easier on your pocket, you would have more table control through more flyers, greater table control at the beginning of the game and more shots to deal with hordes.
Good Luck, and let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank you for commenting and for your advice. So your feeling is that there aren't enough models, and that it would be at risk of getting tabled before the reserves were able to make an impact?

Contrary to impressions, I'm a total 40k newbie and just trying to design something which is exciting to build and play.

Interesting that you pick out Horde armies as a concern - I was under the impression they were pretty few and far between these days. My concern was more the big boys - Lords of War and super heavies.

I appreciate the feedback very much.

They are but that is only because rules do not favour those armies atm. If 40k rules swing round and favour hordes again, then you could be up gak creek. I think you have enough AT there to worry most super heavies up to a warlord titan, so for 1850pt size games an amended list like the one I suggested should be ok. The most you will probably come up against are Imperial/Wraith Knights and IG Baneblade etc, and I think that suggested list should be enough to take it out. If you aren't sure roll some dice as if you were attacking a superheavy with that army - do some maths hammer and see what you would likely take out super heavy wise in one turn
