I'm trying to decide whether to play an IK Army w/ LOTD or a FW heavy Tau army with lots of Rip-tides and its variants.

I want to focus on an army with very few models. Thing is I know that IK and Tau currently have a bad rap as being Not terribly fun to play against. And I don't want to be "That Guy" that no one wants to play against. Does anyone have suggestions regarding this? Currently I am leaning towards the IK+LOTD.

I have multiple venues to choose from some being incredibly competitive and others much more casual. Your help in this matter would be much appreciated as I will likely be dropping large sums and don't want to have an awesome army with no one to play against.

I think you've answered your own question. The only solution I can think of is to go and meet some of the players you'd be playing...ask what they think - or see if other people are playing "unfun" armies.

Seconding this. You seem to have a good idea of what you want to do, are aware of the respective's armies' reputations and are concerned with how it will affect others. However, right now you are in a vacuum. You need to scope out the people you're going to play with and see what they play/think.

Who knows? They may not even care about how 'unfun' your army sounds.
