I'm finally going to put my Betrayal at Calth box together, and I'm curious how build people recommend for the terminators. I haven't actually played any 30k yet, and I already have a unit of Phoenix Guard. I thought I had heard that termies weren't very good, which is fine, as then I can just build a rule of cool looking squad and paint them up a stock, combi-bolter and powerfist squad with a heavy flamer.

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Maru Skara rite of war doesn't even let you take slow and purposeful models, so you can't even use them unless you use a generic right of war.

I play EC and I just built a squad with 2 chainfists 2 power fists and a heavy flamer with bolters, and a squad with all power claws.

I think all power claws seems more fluffy for EC.

Good thing then, that Cataphractii Armor doesn't actually have the rule "Slow and Purposeful" then. They have the rules that make it up. Also there is the Second RoW available to the Sons of the Phoenician, the 3rd Company Elite, which has no restrictions on S&P units.

Also Polonius, I'm told a Lightning Claw and a Volkite Charger can be a good way to go.

I'm working on a 40k Ultramarines army, and I part wonder if the models would work better there!

That seems to be a spendy, albeit punchy, way to build them. Are there Charger models for cataphracts, or do you just use the basic legion chargers?

For the XIIIth you could probably convert them to the Fulmentarii.

I believe right now you'd just have to modify the basic Legion Chargers for the Terminators.

There are rumors that the next HH boxed set will include Tartaros Terminators, which would synergize better with EC since they can perform a sweeping advance.

So it might not be bad strategy to use the Cats for the XIIIth, and sit tight on the IIIrd for now.

If Tarts are in the next box set, looks like my Night Lord army will start production. (Which means sit there, like my Raven Guard.)

Lightning Claws with Eidolon attached sounds to me like they would absolutely mulch whatever they encountered, short of primarchs.

I do have one full 10-man squad of terminators for me EC, although they're in Tartaros armor. I keep them cheap as possible, they all have power axes, and I paid for a grenade harness and 2 plasma blasters.

I would reccomend leaving the cata out of an ec army, they dont fit as well as other units could, instead If you can, use tartaros termies.

Didn't have to be an A-hole about it, but thanks for pointing that out.

Also, what book does the Sons of the Phoenician RoW come from?

I wasn't thinking I was being an A-hole, sorry about that.

Oh its 3rd Company Elite, I just used a flowery title for the Emperor's Children, but 3rd Company Elite can be found in Book 6 and the new Crusade Army List. It makes the Kakophoni into Troops (compulsory and non) along with granting them Relentless.

Terminator Command Squad! Bling those puppies out!

Or trade them for more power armored dudes.

No probs, sometime I spend too much time in YMDC and read too much into things.

That might make Kokophoni playable!

Certainly, S6 AP5 Heavy 2, gets hot, Pinning with Relentless, and then their special rule? I certainly would consider running a list around that theme.

Kakophoni are great in 3rd company elite, especially since you can have a worthwhile unit of 20 assault marines with eidolon and an apothecary as your other troop choice.

I think Maru Skara could be really good if you fully commit to it. Say 3 nasty flyers or something like that in your hidden blade. But otherwise, yeah...3rd company is great. You can just ignore tacticals and go for Kakophoni and maybe some assault dudes as your troops, and you don't really lose anything important or have serious limitations.

As a WE player, I love me some tacticals, but most legions don't feel similarly.
