So I'm thinking about allying IG with my Tau, with the lore behind it being they are gue'vesa that were on a world captured within the hold of the Tau Empire. They were brought into the Empire under the banner of my Tau.

I have three questions regarding their use on the tabletop:
1 - How viable is it?
2 - How much potential firepower could be contained in the army?
3 - In a 2000 point game, what would the list be like?

Honestly, for the most part this would just be watering down a Tau list in terms of raw power. That said, trying to keep it in theme, I'd imagine something like carapace vets for IG infantry to match Fire Warriors in terms of Tau infantry theory. Maybe some artillery units to cover things a normal Tau force wouldnt have and maybe Valks or Vendettas for transports to better match Tau warfare practice?

So, take the Tau contingent, add two or three units of Carapace Vets with Carapace CCS, mount them in Valks and Vendettas, and take some Wyverns or Manticores to round it out?

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.

New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights!
The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

Gameplay-wise, it's not a good idea. Both excel at shooting things at things. You'd be better with some kind of durable, short-range/melee and fast for allies.

AI & BFG: / BMG: Mr. Freeze, Deathstroke / Battletech: SR, OWA / Fallout Factions: BoS / HGB: Caprice / Malifaux: Arcanists, Guild, Outcasts / MCP: Mutants / SAGA: Ordensstaat / SW Legion: CIS / WWX: Union

Voted Astra Militarum for a chance for them to get nerfed instead of my own army.
