Subject: WYSIWYG 3,000 PT Salamanders List (Betrayal at Calth boxes used as backbone)

Hey guys.
I'm working on a 3,000 Point scaling list for Salamanders, which can easily scale down to 2,500 or 2,000 Points.
I used parts sourced from four Betrayal at Calth Boxes, and the minimum Forgeworld stuff I'm investing in to start here is included.
This isn't to be the most competitive list, and I realize there's a lot of really great forge world models and units to think about adding down the line, this is more to have an army you can play with while thinking about about what it needs to expand.
The other half of the models and bits will go to an Alpha Legion list which I'm working on next, I gave the Salamanders Missile Launchers in order to make sure there's at least one Heavy Support with long range weaponry, but I just wanted to know what you guys think, if there's other ways you'd trick out war gear, and if there's something from Forgeworld I should really think about trying to shoehorn in here to substitute for something else.
This is WYSIWYG, but I did have a question about proxying Combi-Weapons on the Firedrakes in another thread rather than magnetizing. (*EDIT FIXED SOME MATH)

As you plan, to have the list downscalable to 2000 points, I suggest adding another HQ apart from Vulcan, as a Primarch on 2000 point is slight overkill in my oppinion.

You're short on compulsory choices, unfortunately. Vulkan isn't actually an HQ choice, and Tactical Support squads can't be used as compulsory Troops, you need another regular Tactical squad. Vulkan/Firedrakes/Spartan is really hard to fit into a normal-sized game, unfortunately. If you really want to do it I'd suggest a Terminator-armoured Primus Medicae to fill the compulsory HQ slot, he's quite cheap and makes the Firedrakes just that much more annoying to get rid of.
I know you're trying to be WYSIWYG and probably don't have the models, but I like Pyroclasts a lot better than standard Tactical Support squads. They're more flexible for small/midsize games, they're cheaper than a full melta Support Squad, and they've got artificer armour (and an invulnerable save against plasma/melta weapons).

The Primus Medicae is a Support officer and can not be the compulsory HQ choice. Therfore I would suggest taking a Chaplain, or Legion Champion.

My bad. Remembering what can be taken in what slot in 30k takes some getting used to, care should be taken.

I thought that Tactical support Squads were listed under troops? Where should I look for detachment rules that says otherwise? (sorry to be a bother about that)
I think Pyroclasts look fantastic, but they count as Heavy Support from what I'm reading, I was trying use Tactical Support Squads for scoring purposes. That's the reason the Firedrakes appeal to me, they can be a Command Squad AND scoring, and you can outfit them a ton of different ways.
I am trying to figure out if I can swing 10 Pyroclasts though, I do agree that they're not overpriced, flexible, etc. What I'm hoping is that I can get a Godhammer Land Raider for them which I can proxy as a Proteus without protests rather than shelling out for the forgeworld model, so I can manipulate reeserve rolls for my opponents while using them as support, and a shield for scoring squads advancing in transports.

What he's saying is that tactical support squads and recon squads are not COMPULSORY troops choices. You must have 2 of those for a legal list. Legion Tactical Squads, Breacher Squads and Assault squads are all compulsory troops choices. After that, THEN you can throw the support squads in. If you can take pyroclasts as compulsory - DO IT. They are freaking amazing.
Not a bad start, maybe try and put together some shields for your drakes for that 3++ save. If not shields, definitely go primus medicae, FnP on those guys would be REALLY annoying.

Pyroclasts become Non-compulsory troops choices.

There's a rule in the unit entry that says 'Support Squad: this unit may not be used to fill compulsory Troops slots' (paraphrased).
The rule that says Pyroclasts can be used as non-compulsory Troops is part of the Covenant of Fire Rite of War (read under 'Veneration of Wrath').

I do it so I can quickly scroll to it actually, I get that if it was a text message or something it would feel like shouting, but it's so I can quickly see if someone replied.
