I got the dark angel's codex when it came and was horrified at how bad some pieces of art were (like that deathwing knight...UGH). In so far I've heard that 7th edition hasn't had good artwork (that GWs art has deteriorated). Nevertheless I like some stylistic choices and wanted to ask which do you people thing are the best codexii when it comes to the new art they bring to the table.

I don't know if GW makes new artwork anymore; their books contain almost exclusively recycled artwork and photographs of models. What new artwork there is (looking at the Skitarii and Harlequin books here, those two are new in 7th and don't have a body of art to recycle) seems to have the clearer and tighter focus on the models that is tripping up the lore they're writing these days.

The only piece I know is new in 7th that I like is the cover of the Grey Knights book; it's a little too clean, but it's a scene/piece of art rather than a model showcase and it's got a sense of atmosphere that most of the artwork has lost.

I eyed up Harlequins and they do seem to have some nice scenes, like the troupe jumping in to face the emperor's children. But yeah, too "contained".
