I'd drop most of the immobile stuff... the list doesn't reall'y work with itself... the libby will never get to assault a vehicle, the plasma cannons will probably not get to shoot much/ at all because they can't snapfire... and the tac squads, on foot, will be snapping the bolter.

I'd consider some transports instead to add mobility. Or, perhaps go with some bikes for a squad and the libby... or put him with the devs at long range (lascannons?) and hope for some good div powers.

Are there other restrictions going on here? Like no vehicles?

The lack of mobility is bad. A quick fix is to drop the naked tac squad for a pair of rhinos. If you want to keep it footslogging, swap out the HB squads for scouts. That way you at least get their deployment options, and can start in a better position.

Your only AV are the PCs and the melta bomb. Against anything pretending to be armor, you don’t have a good answer.

You do put a lot of bolter fire down, but without the mobility it’s going to be hard to focus it where you need to be. And anything that can’t be drowned in boters is going to be an issue.

There are a number of directions that we could go to help get this list to preform better on the table. The question is what parts of the list do you want to focus on? Is there a theme you want to work with? 500 points you can’t do everything, so need to make some hard calls.

ok then i'm going to need advice because i'm slowly building up a force of marines for my 3000 point total army and I want to do a lot smaller games too.

Suggestions?

My basic idea is a librarian leading a small force of marines to claim an overall objective....

I am limited in budget so can't get expensive stuff like Storm Ravens, or loads of razorbacks..

My general 500 point marine list looks something like this

HQ
Full tac squad in a rhino
5 man scout squad
<fun unit>

There is, of course, a lot of flex depending on mood.

Here is a quick list I tossed together. It was while the coffee was still brewing, so I make no promises for the results of my uncaffeinated mind.

Lib, ML2 JP
10 tacs, MM/M, c-melta
5 scouts camo, snipers
5 man assault, JP, 2xF, Vet sarge w/power axe

hmm interesting

Definitely wanting a librarian, as captain and chaplain been overdone in my other lists...

Not sure about MM in a 500 points game...

Used to have a scout squad with snipers! damn

ok

How about this:

Librarian
ML 2
Grav Pistol
Jump Pack
120

Tac Squad (8 man)
Combi-Grav
Grav Gun
DT: Rhino
172

Scout Squad (5 man)
Sniper Rifles x 5
Camo Cloaks x 5
70

Assault Squad (5 man)
Jump Packs
2 Flamers
Vet Sgt w/ Lightning Claws
Melta Bombs
125

Not an fan of any of the special pistols. 15 points is more then they are worth. That said, there is some synergy with a grav pistol and an axe. So I could see the point of going with a force axe on the lib and taking one.

If you are just running a partial tac squad, I might shave them down to the point where they fit into a razorback and upgrade your rhino to one. One of the upgrade turrets would help bring a bit more firepower. LC/TLPG or TLAsC would be my suggestion.

I like the extra attack of the sword over the shred of the single claw, but the claw works. I would suggest that the sarge or the lib (but not both) have an axe for some AP2 in the squad.

Besides that, looks fun.

I would drop the grav and combi-grav, and use your remaining points to give that unit a grav cannon & amp instead. I would also change the scouts' loadout to be bolters and put them in a Land Speeder Storm w/heavy flamer. That unit is very fun, versatile, cheap, and extremely effective. To make up those points, I'd just shave down the melta bombs, grav pistol, rifles/cloaks, etc.

I'd recommend something like this:

LIbrarian - ML2, jump pack, force axe, bolt pistol
Scout Squad (5) - bolters, land speeder storm w/heavy flamer
Tactical Squad (5) - grav cannon & amp, rhino
Assault Squad (7) - jump packs, vet sgt. w/power maul, bolt pistol

It's min-sized units for the most part, but should be fun to play (I think you may have a few points left over, so I guess another body somewhere or digital weapons on the libby, etc.)

Problem with grav cannon is I can't get hold of one from local store and I don't want to start going down road of ordering from GW as it's too expensive.

I could go Grav and MM but I like the extra range of the plasma gun.

You can’t have both the special and the heavy in a 5 man tactical squad.

I think the only place to get grav cannons is the devastator box. Unless you go 3rd party. Not a bad box to pick up anyway, as you’ll want more the MLs for your tac squads anyway. I traded for the two GCs I have from one of the guys at my FLGS, rather then buying the box myself. But I already had a large stock of the older heavy weapons, so it was very difficult to justify picking up a whole box for 2 guns.

I have a devastator box and there are no grav cannons in it.

Could go Missile launcher....

List looks fairly solid. I’m not a huge fan of MLs in general, but their jack-of-all-trades nature should help in small games.

You must have gotten the older dev box. 2xLC, PC, HB, 1x MM, ML. The new one has two of every (non-HF) heavy weapon. They re-cut it when the last codex dropped, along with the assault marines.
