Hi guys it's been a long time i've got some questions to be answered
#1 can a refomed chaos lord join a chapter that accepts reformed chaos marines? If so will other imperial force frown on that, or are there some chapters that be "OK" with that.
#2 do space marines still read just for fun? Like novel, dramas or the news?
#3 what kind of music space marines listen to? Do they listen to heavy metal?
#4 is it possible for a chapter to find a sleeping conteptor dreadnought that is intact? I know it's not impossible but how rare are they?
#5 does anyone know any good references for a chapter motto? I'm have alot of trouble thinking up a motto for my chapter.
What i have for my chapter so far:
The blades of invictus chapter is a fleet base chapter founded in the 38th founding. As a force to rival the chaos space marines, more specifically the knorne berserkers. They're geneseed is unknown to them, but they have striking similarities to the imperial fist chapter. Due to the lack of a betchers gland, another key mutation is in there voice. Each battle brothers voice is for the lack of a better term "unnatural", to the point of most people mistake there voice to be one of a chaos lord. In terms of battle strategy The blades of invictus act as a rapid shock army as they heavily rely on thunderhawks ,stormravens and drop pods to transport there large forces for each battle.they specialize in close combat with there berserker like fighting style and there chapter exclusive chainaxes, however they are no slouch when i comes to firefights using phobos and mars pattern bolters. The chapters fortress monetary "The solum ranger" is a extremely rare vessel that is unique for it's design and armament. The vessel itself is 14500 meters long and 6000 meters wide armed with multiple weapon batteries, 8 lances, multiple types of anti ship torpedos, 4 bombardment cannons and 2 nova cannons and can carry a total of 4 companies in it. Along with
Several battle barges, strike cruisers and support vessels. The chapters ideology is based around the respect and protecting any and all of humanity even the people and battle brothers who are corruped by chaos. The blades of invictus try there best reform any chaos space marines however sometimes this unfortunately
leads to problems like being betrayed or sabatoge. But through the
the centuries they learned to be more cautious and more vigilant while still welcoming.
The blades of invictus has had numerous conflicts between them and other chapters like the marines malevolent and the iron hands, however they have made some great allies like The imperial fists, The space wolves l, The lamenters, The black templars and
The ultramarines. The current chapter master or "supreme judge" as the chapter calls it, is supreme judge corfortius an adolecent leader who still has much to learn. Automatically Appended Next Post: Sorry for all bad grammar

#1: No, the only exception of it which even still it is not confirmed if this is even true, is the death watch as a blackshield. Rumor has it some could be from former traitor legion, but nothing to confirm. So if you run death watch, sure.
#2: Yes, if they carried over some of their philosophies from their legions it was encouraged for them to.
#3: This also carries over from the legion, during the time of the great crusade, classical was what was popular.
#4: Theoretically they could, if some how one survived a impact from being shot down in a transport ans survived. Or if it was some how left in a basement some where *cough* Lion *cough* and said chapter never thought to look. But they are VERY rare in 40k times. I dont even think Lore wise even the ultra marines or DA have one. At least not to my knowlege but, long and short RARE!
#5 40k wiki and such.
Lore wise, there is no way they would have a nova cannon let alone 2. nova cannons are also VERY rare. The way you described the fleet tactics is very common to standard space marine in taht they are shock troopers. Chain axes are a bit eh, but adds nice flavor.
Get rid of the idea of reforming chaos, it would not be very lore friendly at all.

Gotta agree, there is no reforming Chaos. Once you fall to it, you are fallen and gone forever. Even if you decided to try to come back: 1 the Chaos gods would not give you your soul back and 2 no loyalist would ever trust you again.
You can have renegade marines come back, if they did something unsanctions for a good purpose. Marines get excommunicated all the time for all sorts of reasons, some have actually fallen from the Emperors grace while others were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. They must have remained loyal to the emperor for the entire time and they must have somehow removed the doubt about the chapter.

I have to agree about trying to reform chaos, just isn't done. It's a choice to stop fo stop following the emprah. However if it's a wrong place, wrong time ala gaunts ghosts, where their stuck on a chaos world for a time, there are tests to determine the purity of one's soul. However I'd have to assume that even if proven to be freed of chaotic taint, you'd be watched for some time.

So long as they never stopped loving the emperor and fighting for the IoM.
Like if they temporarily allied themselves with a Chaos warband to fight a bigger, nastier Chaos warband that was up to no good. That might be enough to get them excommunicated, as being friendly with traitors is a no no. So they became renegade. It might take centuries of selfless acts of heroism to rebuild their name. Even after they did, they would always be treated as a little suspect.
The alliance would have to be very temporary and strained. The Chaos forces they helped would have to be the less evil type of traitor. The bigger, nastier Chaos threat would have to be basically evil incarnate. There must have been billions of lives on dozens of worlds at stake.

I your looking for a reformed SM chapter, I suggest reading the Souldrinker series. I like it, and it gives a feel for that sort of chapter.

As mentioned, Chaos Lords don't "reform." If they regret their actions, they may be granted the Emperor's Mercy (summary execution).
corfortius74 wrote:

There would have to be a very good reason for it, if it is not of use in war. This was probably slightly different during the Great Crusade - Emperor's Children. I would also imagine the Dark Angels, Ultramarines, Blood Angels, Alpha Legion, Word Bearers, and a few others would have a more classical bent.
corfortius74 wrote:

I think it was the Black Library editor Laurie Goulding who said on twitter it would be all Gregorian-style chanting. Space Marines who listen to other genres are called the Emperor's Children. They would not listen to Sabaton or Hammerfall.
corfortius74 wrote:#4 is it possible for a chapter to find a sleeping conteptor dreadnought that is intact? I know it's not impossible but how rare are they?
Presumably. However, it would belong to a different chapter (or Legion). Maybe the Blood Ravens would steal the chassis and leave the sarcophagus though. However, try stealing another chapter's dreadnought, repainting it, and waking it and see how you fare. Blood Ravens repainting a World Eater Contemptor would be hilarious though!

What? I have no idea what you mean here. If the gene-seed is tainted by the Warp, the Chapter would be either exterminated or running to the Eye of Terror/Maelstrom if it were something that obvious.

Several chapters have chainaxes, Carcharadons being a noted one.

Erm. Traitors are shot. Survivors are shot again. Space Marines do not allow Traitors to live. While there is a stark difference between 30k and 40k Space Marines with regards to protecting the civilians of the Imperium (look at Angels of Darkness), and you have exceptions like the Lamenters and Salamanders, none of these would allow Traitors to live.

As mentioned, you can't reform those fallen to Chaos, and harbouring Traitors would result in immediate Excommunicate Traitoris status if it became known.
Adolescents are not made Chapter Masters either.

Their = Something that belongs to "they." It is their bolter.
There = A location. It bolter is over there.
They're = They are.
's = Possessive. Battle brother's means it belongs to the battle brother, while battle brothers is just the plural. Battle brothers' would be something that belongs to the battle brothers (plural).
There are reasons for the Knights of Blood never fighting alongside Imperial forces. That they'd be shot at it is one of them.
Look up the Lamenters, Mantis Warriors, and Executioners in the aftermath of the Badab War for Chapters going Renegade (but not falling to Chaos). They had some heavy penance to do in the aftermath. Poor Lamenters.
Edit: I just realised Solum Striker was probably meant to be Solemn Striker. Solum is a somewhat common Norwegian surname, so I was a little confused.

Chaz has it. I'd advise to look away from the whole renegades/Chaos tolerant aspect until you look into more about what Space Marines are and how they operate. There's nice (Salamanders) and heretics (people who defend Chaos tainted marines).
Chaos can't be renounced. It's not an allegiance, it's the selling of your very soul. Mere renegades who turn from the Imperium and don't consort with heretics and xenos? They could be refolded back into the Imperium, provided they were sent on many penitent crusades (which would probably reduce the chapter to minimal strength and equipment, so no pre-heresy goodies there). The moment there is Chaos involvement, they cease to be redeemable.
Chapter Masters are not rookies. They should have served as a Captain at least, so will have some command experience. Space Marines aren't even promoted to Battle Brother status until they are well into their twenties/thirties. A Chapter Master can be expected to have centuries of knowledge.
They might be inexperienced in leading a Chapter and struggling to redeem a decimated Chapter with odds stacked against them, and must fight off the temptation to follow his forebears and leave the Imperium and consort with Chaos/Xenos, and purge his Chapter with faith.

Chaos can be renounced--it's exceptionally rare, but it does happen.
In The Emperor's Gift, by Aaron Dembski-Bowden, Inquisitor Annika has a member of her retinue who is a Chaos cultist who has turned away from Chaos.
However, Space Marines hold themselves to a greater level of purity. A Chaos Lord who turned away from Chaos (incredibly rare, but possible, I suppose--you could check out the Exalted from the Night Lords trilogy for a good idea of how that might start) would never be accepted by a loyalist chapter.
However, there ARE chapters that are 'chaos tolerant.' There are chapters which have been mutated to an unacceptable degree and gone renegade, or split from the Imperium over ideological differences (Soul Drinkers, f'rex). Those chapters aren't loyalists, per se, but they aren't necessarily chaos either. (Certainly, they don't identify that way, and most likely other Chaos forces don't see them that way.)
