Hi guys, been lurking on these forums for quite a while, so thought it was probably time to start a blog for the projects I’m working on. Blogging my progress will hopefully drive me to get stuff done as well hopefully getting a few helpful comments from you all.
I’ve just moved home and now have a nice large study to myself, decked out to my specs after sharing a smaller space with the wife for the last 18 months, which meant having to pack everything away between modelling/painting sessions. I can now leave stuff out saving a bit and shouldn’t get nagged as much (hopefully) about the mess.
First off I should say I’m not a gamer, I don’t have the time now to play table top wargames, so I just collect model and paint, which to be honest is the part I enjoyed the most anyway. This also means how I assemble and paint my miniatures are no constrained by the rules giving more freedom, but also hopefully more originality.
I currently have Tau, Dark Angel, Eldar, Grey Knight and Space marine (my homespun Sons of Khan chapter) armies on the go and with the exception of the grey knights, all with a lot of models requiring paint. With this in mind I couldn’t help myself when the Deathwatch were released at the same time as my house move, so as soon as I was set up a large order was placed consisting of:

Death Masque
Killteam Cassius
Deatwatch rhino/razorback
Corvus Blackstar
Deathwatch master
Deathwatch Librarian in Terminator armour
Deathwatch chaplain

To these I also added all the Blood Angels from the Shield of Baal set converted to appear from other chapters as well as a couple of marine bikes and a few marines and terminators that were added after raiding my bits box. The result is what you can see on my desk below, assembled, but before any basing/priming.

Razorback with FW additions:

Shield of Baal captain converted with Guardain spear and melta fist:

Blackstar next to unfinished IG patrol boat project:

Venerable dread 1:

Venerable Dread 2:

I hope to have a progress update soon with some painting done, but tonight I’m going to carry on assembling the death masque harlequins, to just get a few more sprues out of the way. Comments/critiques welcome.

First update - Progress has been a little slow, but finally finished assembling the rest of the Death Masque Harlequins:

Started basing my death watch, but still a lot to do:

But got distracted when these arrived in the post yesterday:

A nice addition to my Tau army from http://wargameexclusive.com/ - my second purchase from them, who I highly recommend, well cast and extremely detailed miniatures.
Got another busy weekend, but will hopefully have enough time to get some deathwatch primed and start painting.

Here's the latest distraction from painting my Deathwatch:

A retro speeder I got off eBay, stripped and modified to use with my home-brew Marine chapter. I like how it turned out , so just purchased a second.

Happy new year folks,

2017 and time for along overdue update. Time off over the Christmas period allowed me to be a bit more productive and finally got paint on the first of my deathwatch and finish off a couple of side projects:

- These are my pair of MK2 landspeeders I managed pick up on ebay and convert to use in my home-brew chapter (the Sons of Khan)

- The Tau skimmer bike from Wargame exclusive https://wargameexclusive.com/shop/greater-good/greater-good-panaque-three-drone-skimmer/ with GW drones.

Those are the models I've finished, but as always I seem you gather new models faster than I can paint them. I got a storm hawk and a second Corvus Blackstar for Christmas now both assembled and primed as well as a few odds and ends I picked up on E-bay. I've also just brought myself an airbrush set up, which I'm now trying to learn to use effectively, but will hopefully speed up my painting a bit.

Here's a couple of WIPs:

- My new stormhawk, kitbashed and primed, hopefully to make it look a lttle more airworthy.

- With the spare parts from the stormhawk I was able to make progress on this contraption, intended to be used as a mount for my Sons of Khan chapter master, but now looking more podracer than chariot, what do you think?

Lots of cool conversions in here. The painted DW stuff looks wicked too.

Love the chariot, but yes my first thought was 'pod racer'.

Thanks. I'm sure it will look less pod-racerish once there is a figure standing in the back of it.

Finally got time over the Easter weekend to take stock and photograph my completed models. Firstly My deathwatch:

Finally finished the chapter master for my homegrown chapter on his chariot mount, probably the most complex kitbash I've done:

Also finished the Stormhawk, Lanspeeder tempest and 3 honour guard:

All but one of the execution force assassins, now painted.

The Tau sniper from Wargames Exclusive https://wargameexclusive.com/shop/greater-good/greater-good-deep-strike-veteran-far-taker/

Another addition to my 54mm inquisitor collection:

As always I've been getting distracted by the shiny new miniatures coming out so had to get the new moritat figure and after getting the triumvirate of the primarch for my birthday, I decided to build a few Fallen to go with Cypher from Forgeworld upgrade bits, MK4 marines and DA Vets. Bases made from a press mould I created with latex and an old piece of mighty fortress wall.

.....and the still packed painting Bench-

Just back from holiday and ordered my copy of the Dark Imperium box set, so started playing with ideas for my Primaris Marines in photoshop.

What do you think:

I can make the psd file with shading, etc available if anyone is interested.

Finally got around to doing an update. Just a few new kit-bashed/converted models for my Sons of Khan home brew marine army, as I designed them as a fast attack force i decided to eschew the use of tracked vehicle and instead came up with airborne proxies for some of these.

First up the Stormlance Armoured Assault Craft - Land raider proxy, based on the Stormwolf STC, with extra engines and armour.

Next is the Javelin mobile weapons platform as a proxy for the Whirlwind, based on the landspeeder vengance STC:

The last one is not a proxy, just wanted to mess with the layout of the Stormtalon and made it a little more stable when landed.

As always, comments and crits welcomed.

Everything looks really well converted.

I really like the Storm-lance, but I'm unsure about the third set of engines on the wings.

Could you remove the storm bolter from the Javelin and smooth down the front hull? Then sling the storm bolter underneath the nose? The warty bit on the nose of the LS vengance always looks strange.

The storm talon is a nice change, but the missile launchers look like they are only attatched by an ammo feed. Could you stick them above the assault cannons instead?

Thanks, I had the same thought on the javelin, but decided removing the pulpit bit and smoothing down the hull would be to hard to do and make look good.

I think I will add in some extra supports on the stormtalon as I take your point on that.

Really great stuff you have here. The conversions are fantastic. Your home brew army has a great color scheme as well. My be slow going but it’s gonna be a stellar force on the table.

Finally got around to posting something new after a couple of years absent. Thanks to the pandemic I was unemployed for nearly 9 months, but at least that meant I got some serious painting done in that time, two whole armies plus a lot of other bits including a small thousand sons army for a mate.

First off is my Homebrew Primaris marine army: The Nightblades

I'll show more in detail later. My other completed army was a deathguard one, but still to photograph that.

Here's the Thousand Sons for my friends army.
