So, I wasalways ambivalent on B@C because Mk4 didnt look that cool to me. But with with plastic mk3 coming out, i want to play even more.
So, I am learning towards Ultramarines because they seem more infantry heavy and more cheaper, I hear they do MSU well so it sounds fun.
I was thinking of using the Vigil Operatii because I have guard I have alot of to make the Imperial Militia.
I was thinking of using minimum legion recon squads(like four 5 men squads) and using them to "Paint" targets for interlocking tactics. Then using heavy support squads aswell as fulmentarus.

That sounds rather cool! Go with that!

Problem is, those 5-man squads will drop like nothing. UM does MSU "well" in the sense that they get a damage buff with it, but not enough of a buff to make bringing lots of squishy squads worth it IMO.

That being said: play what you think will look cool/be fun to play. I know UM are the largest legion, so if you wanted to mass spam 20-man squads, you would have the ability to, which is fun

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.

Well, is Ignores cover that big of a thing in 30k?

Phosphex weapons all ignores cover.

However weight of fire is a big thing in 30k. Those 5 man squads cost more than a single 20 man and so your opponent is going to have more points to spend on weight of fire. Those 3+/4+ saves won't save you against large amounts of dice.

5 man cost more than the 20man? But 5 man recon cost 125, while the 10man costs like 150 for tactical squad. Yeah, 4 individual sqauds are more expensive, but 20 would be just one compulsary troop.

10 man Tacticals are 125pts

2 10 mans are 250 + upgrades compared to your 20 guys which cost 400 + upgrades. 1 20 man squad is only 225.

For 400 points one could have a 17 man squad and a 18 man tactical squad with no upgrades.

For only 50 points more they could have 2 bare 20 man squads, double the bodies and double the shots you have at the same range.

There are many ways to equal or outnumber you while spending less points, and it's not like your 20 basic Recon Marines are more durable or overly more dangerous.

I guess that makes sense. is there a place for recon squads though? I mean I have to take a viglator.

recon squads are decent (like most every choice in 30k) BUT they share a problem with Vet. tactical squads: They are simply to costly and to squishy to run as the core line-infantry of your army. Remember that in 30k, not everything scores, and infantry and tanks die faster than they do in 40k. 2 or 3 small-medium tactical squads (though, like I said with every legion and UM especially you can EASILY run 20-man tac squads by the fluff) and then 2-3 small recon squads could work just fine.
