Hey all,

I'm wondering if y'all are seeing an increase in the use of Homing Missiles in your games (either fielding or facing).

I've been thinking about this primarily because of the Defender x7, but also because of the IG-88 crew card and(is it the 88C?) The aggressor that gives a free evade token after boosting. In short, it seems like there are a lot more things out there that pass out extra evade tokens (and it's also handy against the ghosts and other big ships that can take evades even though they have very few /if any evade dice).

Conversely, I'm also wondering if there's a good/ efficient way to get some Homing Missiles into an Imperial list... a TAP baron with deadeye, missiles g-chips and v1 could be a potent little ship. Deadeye the missiles on the first pass, TL & title for decent shooting afterwards. (Valen Rudor or the Inquisitor would naturally be better).

Looking forward to your thoughts

They never went away!
Homing Missiles are the most expensive missile, and for good reason.

The fact that you actually get to use the target lock on the attack makes it an out-and-out 'extra attack die', rather than every other missile's special rule which is at least partially making up for the target lock reroll you don't get.

One of the best/cheapest ways to pack homing missiles into a list is a Sniper TIE/sa:

Gamma Squadron Veteran - Crack Shot, Homing Missiles, Long Range Scanners

25 points exactly, and it's lethal as hell. Extra Munitions are possible, but not exactly an automatic choice (TIE bombers aren't hard to kill and getting the target lock back isn't easy).

You need to 'telegraph' your target, but generally the ideal target is pretty obvious to both players, and if you can force them to stay out of the fight that can be worth it right there.

A Target Lock/Focused 4 dice attack with crack shot and no evade tokens allowed is really, really hard to avoid.

Of course, if you really, really want to prove a point, I have seen someone locally use:

Bossk - Crack Shot, Zuckuss, 4-LOM, K4 Security Droid, Homing Missiles, Glitterstim, Guidance Chips.

Complete overkill on a homing missile, but rather satisfying if you actually get the shot off. And sometimes overkill is fun.
