So I fell for a recent Wayland Discount deal and ended up with a British starter set for the Team Yankee Cold War gone hot game. FoW isn't usually my thing but being in my formative years in the 80's meant that I have a certain affection for military equipment from that era so took a dive in.

Suffice to say I really like the models and despite being rather busy at work for the last month have sneaked a bit of time here and there to get a Pair of command tanks and a single Squadron painted to first highlights. I'll Probably just apply the decals and the weather from here but equally I might get on to the pair of Lynxs or the ten FV432s and weather the lot in one go.

A mix of old Vallejo and new range Citadel paints used.

Those look great, and inspire me the start on my own still in the box. Any tips or challenges?

How did you paint the camo - stencil, putty, or freehand? And in what order did you do the colors?

Cheers.

I went free hand on the camo, it simply isn't worth stencilling and I've only found putty to be effective when spraying; I mean it's literally impossible for me not to be able to paint a wavy line so I just went with it.

Colour wise I sprayed the lot in Chaos Black as an undercoat.

I then used Plastic Soldier Company Russian Uniform spray for the base coat. I brushed Vallejo Russian Uniform to touch up (it's a perfect match).

I then brushed on Abaddon Black mixed with a drop of Vallejo Matt Medium. I tested a range of black to see what was the flattest (Vallejo/GW Chaos Black/W&N Black) and Abaddon was by far the most Matt, it still had some shine which would probably be lost in the next stage so I added the Matt Medium just to be sure. I was tempted to go with a very dark grey (or paynes grey) but figured that since I was drybrushing highlights it would general lighten the scheme and this proved to be the case.

Next I painted Vallejo Flat Brown on the tracks. The GW Charonite Grey with a drop of black to the track pads.

Next I made a wash of 2 parts Vallejo Black Shade, a drop of Flow improver, 3 parts water and 1 part Matt medium. This went on the whole model.

Then all green and black areas got a dry brush of Russian Uniform mixed with Vallejo Yellow Ochre (3:1). The edges got a bit more attention, black areas less.

The barrel collar was then painted a dark khaki colour (the name of which escapes me). Vallejo brown shade followed, with a drybrush of khaki/yellow ochre (3:1) to finish.

It was actually pretty simple and I could have just gone with the basic colours rather than all the addatives without much change to the end result so I wouldn't go out of you way if you are missing anything I listed.

Fab job, they look really nice.

Like the effect on the gun barrels, think it works well a nice touch to the overall look of the minis.

Thanks mate.

And it was Khemri Brown I used on the barrel sleeves as a base. Credit to the Dakka and FOW paint charts there as I had to convert from the new TY paints twice to get back to a pot of something I owned!

Bloody Battlefront and it's new paint names!
