So we all know the warp alters everything it touches and it clearly alters armor, but does it make it unable to remove? I would imagine in general marines can, but units like oblits cannot. Is their any fluff or knowledge to back this up? Thank you

Most of them can't id say, the warp has changed them so much that some part of the armor has fused with them.

It really depends. For most of them? They probably can't-they practically live inside their armor, so the Warp would fuse it to them.

For some, especially those who routinely doff their armor, they should be able to.

Yes. Back in 2nd edition being fused into their armour was specifically a part of the Mark of Khorne (which gave a 2+ armour save in addition to Frenzy), but skip forward to 3rd edition and you've got the novel Storm of Iron wherein a Berzerker takes his daemon armour off for a slave to clean it.

This is what I imagine. Armor would still need to be cleaned or replaced as it gets damaged, so it would have to still come off

That's kinda cool, more molded around them than to them

It does depend.

In storm of iron, you do see someone remove his armour.

In the book Dark Disciple, The Chaos marine has his armour forcibly removed by a Dark Eldar and it had fused to his flesh because he hadn't been removed in thousand of years.

Some can, some can't.

Depends on the level of allegiance that they have to chaos.

For example in the Nightlords series, Talos routinely takes his armor off for maintenance..etc etc....where as Vandred's armor was melded to his body.

Considering many marines become fused with their weapons (because they are "one with their weapon" and metaphors become manifest if you spend too long in contact with the warp) it makes sense that a good deal of CSMs have a similar 'problem' with their armour.

Wasn't Vandred a possessed marine?

Chaos marines are highly varied. Some only recently went traitor, others have been worshiping chaos for 10,000 years.

Obviously a Tson is only his armor. Plague marines might have trouble taking it off. Oblits have been redone to be armor fused with daemon fused with man.

But I'm sure there are some Heresy era marines who take off their armor all the time.

Yeah, he had a demon in possession of his body, but not to the degree of a normal jabbering possessed space marine

Almost all of the Blood Gorgon warband can take their armour off yet their chapter master Gammadin is literally made out his armour. No joke an auspex reading showed he registered as 88% metal composite <_>

I think Argal Tal in Betrayer notes that some of his armour is no longer removable after he has started to mutate. Towards the end of the book, maybe after Istvaan V.

It depends on the specific marine, and legion, as the Iron Warriors could take their armour off, but the World Eaters really can't (And wouldn't anyways).

World Eaters don't even clean their armour.

Supposedly, they never repainted it from white, it just got bloody and they never washed it up.

I remember once reading, not sure if whfb or 40k, but for some Khorne warriors the armour just begins to weep blood uncontrollably.

Don't know if it's been retconned but the World Eaters reforged their armour at that foot of Khornes throne after the heresy.
