I need a quick 200 point Tau list for a newcomer who's never played the game before.

I asked him if he prefers a close combat army, a shooter army or one focused on Magic (psychic) powers. He said he prefers snipers.

So your help is critical here: what's a 200 point Tau list that's effective and has simple enough rules not to drive a newbie away?

And what Eldar or Necron list do you recommend of the same point count that's friendly to play against?

Thanks!

Not sure about Tau, but I just played my first Kill Team game the other say with an Eldar Force. My opponent played Deathwatch and I managed to kill all 7 of his units by the end of turn 2 with only 3 losses on my side, 2 guardians and a swooping hawk.

My force consisted of

10 Defender Guardians
1 grav Platform w/starcannon
5 Swooping Hawks

My leader took the 'Quick Thinker' Trait (we could pick since it is a league)
Specialists
- Guardian with Sharpshooter: the guy mans the Starcannon, and almost gaurentes a kill a turn
- Swooping Hawk with Preferred Enemy (since it's a shooting army, it's hard to pick specialists that effect shooting)
- Swooping Hawk with Soul Blaze (again, hard to find abilities that effect shooting)

Straight up Pulse Rifles with a Crisis Suit or two with Plasma Guns. Pathfinders with Rail Rifles I can see being very good in Kill Team as well. I know nothing about Eldar, but on the Necrons front, Flayed Ones fit nicely into Kill Team. A couple Destroyers would work, too.

Hello,

A good beginning would definitely the "start collecting Tau" box. With an ethereal, a firrewarrior team and a Crisis Team you can field a small 200 pts. force with a little bonus. This force has some special rules but shouldn't be too much for a beginner. And Crisis suits are always good.

Friendly games?
Here a few lists

6 stealth suits fun for all, really resilient if used with cover
1 shas'vre w/ burst cannon
2 fusion blasters

Good against hordes, bad against T4 3+Sv
1 crisis with 2x burst canons
3 stealth suits x3 burst canons
6 fire warriors.

Good just against SM and IG (never lost with this.)
3 crisis suits
x2 missile pods
x2 burst cannon
x2 flamer
8 fire warriors
Can drop a fire warrior or two and upgrade the burst to a plasma for AP goodness.
