I'm a bit of a horder when it comes to models. It doesn't matter if it's old, a conversion gone wrong, a scratch build, or some 3rd party abomination, I tend to not throw them away. However, I try not to put these on the board unless they are needed for WYSIWYG purposes. Sometimes I get an eye roll for the level of ugly I bring out.

I think my biggest offender is an Imperial knight model. Now, I made this model back in 2006, long before there were rules or an official model. Surprisingly, he actually fit the codex options. He just seems REALLY derpy, as I based him on armorcast detail levels to fit in with the other titans I have. Also on this list is an Epicast Knight. However, this one gets by on rule of cool for being an unreleased model.

What about you guys? Have anything in your inventory that makes you feel self conscious if it hits the table?

I deeply regret painting my Wolves blue. I've received numerous "furry" comments and weird anime references I don't get. I've also been asked if my Gorax was a trollblood warbeast more than a few times when the player was new to the game.

My regular opponent also uses a few dildo counters in the majority of games for tokens. This is apparently not awkward to anyone but me.

Where does one even buy tiny dildos like that? Actually, scratch that, I don't want to know.

I'm embarrassed by none of my models on the table.

There are probably models I'd be embarrassed to pay good money for, though (Flying dogkennel being one of them). I just don't buy them.

For me it's the Storm Talon and Storm Raven. As kits straight off the shelf I still can't like them, which is a shame as the variants from FW and the newer Storm Hawk are actually ok.

I still use both the Talon and the Raven but I am pretty embarrassed by them.

Not as embarrassed as I'd be using dildo objective markers though - that's gotta be my favourite Dakka post of all time...

Almost ten years ago to the day, I tried to sculpt a nurgle sorcerer entirely out of greenstuff but the result was horrible. He wound up looking like....well...a lump of badly sculpted modelling putty. He also got bent out of shape and looks like he's doing a really bad Matrix impersonation.

I was looking for a few pictures of my wolves and remembered I used to have to play against that. I'm going to now paint the most family friendly Slaanesh Emperor's Children army I can in the next few weeks

I texted him - he said they're pencil erasers ends you buy at "Spencers" - a US based party store.

I have 3 ork battlewagons, I painted them moderately well, they are 'finished'... but I wish, every day I walk past them on the shelf, I wish I had individualized them to alter their silhouettes as a ranked up line of 3 identical but asymetrical vehicles drives my OCD/ork mech perfekshun off the chart. I am torn between breaking them up to change up their look and risking them not going back together as well and having to repaint them, or just trying to get over it.

Urgh, just writing about it has set a nerve twitching in my eyelid...

I'm at least somewhat embarassed by my entire Blood Angel Army. Painted mostly in the '90s and some in the very early '00s in block colors (no shades or drybrushing) with green painted bases they're by far my worst painted figures.

Anyone else remember when Blood Red was really bright and a bit orangey? It's like a something you'd see on AOL circa 1992.

I put them on the table last night with my friends in a 4 player game of "One Page 40k". It was the first time they'd been on the table in years and they were definitely not up to the level of the other minis. On the positive side, it has given me another push towards balasting their bases, touching them up, decaling and dipping them. I've been thinking about this for a while as it wouldn't be hard and would bring them pretty solidly to modern "tabletop" standards.

All that said, the block paint is very neatly done and every figure I put on the table is fully painted, so if I still played 40k regularly at the FLGS, I'd still be a few steps ahead of the unpainted hordes that you frequently see fielded.

Honestly, I don't think those marines are all that bad. Throw some washes on them, black rim the base, and add some gravel/fluff and they'd be good as new. However, I do like the pop effect your colors have.

Thanks for the kind words folks. Maybe they're not terrible but I've gotten pretty good at getting nice results with minwax dip and drybrushing and these guys are pretty far below that. Luckily I've got a big stock of decals, a can of minwax and 25 to 32mm base converters are cheap.

As for the color I'm not sure but it's a craft paint I got to replace the old 90s blood red (not blood angels red). Craft shops have huge selections of cheap paints.

Long ago in 4th edition or so, I played a Khorne army with a heavy mechanical feel. Lots of bionics and I used the INquisitor scale cyber hound for Fleshounds. It was all painted with a heavy emphasis on brass.. My demon prince was made from the old Minotaur Lord body and the lower torso was the tracks from the old Rapier model. With a suitably mechy looking set of limbs and cables running everywhere. I worked hard on that all metal and green stuff conversion. He was a terror using the old 3.5 C:CSM. Then some one walked up to my table mid-game and said "Hey look guys, it's Wal-E!!!"

I never could look at it the same again, and so did the rest of my gaming group. I hated that guy.

One squad of 2nd ed bolter huggers is still on active duty in my company. The other squad was replaced and now lives on the swap shelf.

I’m not going to say I’m embarrassed to put them on the table, but they are the last tac squad to be picked when it comes to putting models in the case to take to the FLGS. To their credit, last time I did field them (a list with all the even numbered squads in the company, which is why they got out) they were my MVP squad of the game, erasing a big blob of little gribbly nids, and then blowing large chunks out of a squad of zoanthropes.
