Hi all,
I only have the older Legion Crusades red book, Thagmata, and Istavan red books and was wondering about a rule that the Iron Hands have, and would like your guys help in answering something.
Rite of War: The Head of the Gorgon
Iron Scions rule...
Which Automata maniples can i take as per this rule?
- I was going to collect a Legio Cybernetica army, but really i just wanted to get the following....
- Domitar
- Castellax
- Arlatax
- Thanatar
Any help will be welcome
Thanks,
Dave

The wording in the Rite is 'Legio Cybernetica Battle-Automata Maniples'. Absent a clear and consistent typeline the Domitar, Castellax, and Vorax are all 'Battle-Automata Maniples', while the Thanatar are 'Siege-Automata Maniples', and as far as I can tell the Arlatax is a Castellax variant that exists in the fluff but doesn't have rules yet.

So I'd say you could get the Domitar and Castellax without worrying, but you might have to have an argument if you want to get a Thanatar.

Interesting,
I was reading around and someone was saying the rules for the Arlatax were out, and i haven't found the rules myself. It sounds like the guy was full of it.
I will miss the Thanatar, but the Domitar, Castellax, Vorax, and Arlatax would be nice. If i can take these automata I'd definitely be using a bunch of these minis that i got from Burning of Prospero and Batrayal at Calth in some pre-heresy Iron Hands.

ON a side note, do you guys know if the GW plastic Rhino (not the demios) were around during the Crusades/Heresy? I ask due to loving the design of them with the FW Reinforced armor plates.

On further checking it looks like I was mistaken earlier, the Arlatax rules are in Book 6 (Retribution) but aren't in the red book (the current batch of red books are current as of Book 5). And it is, in fact, a Battle-Automata Maniple and should be usable in Head of the Gorgon!

As a general rule most of the modern Space Marine kit (Mk.7 armour, the Mk.IIb Rhino...) was in development during the Heresy, people had it but it didn't see widespread deployment. As long as you're not looking at one of the new flyers or Mk.8 power armour (the wacky high-collar stuff, like the GK and Deathwatch armour) it was probably on the field by the Siege of Terra.

Awesome,
I was looking at doing some Iron Hands with the guys i have.
90 Mk.III legionaries and 50 Mk.IV legionaries
15 Tartaros and 15 Cataphractii terminators.
I would like to collect the Mk.IIb/c rhino with the extra armor plates that forge world release.

If i can't take Thanatars in this rite of war, no were it says i cant take them as allies (it says "No Allied Space Marine Legions" not no Legio Cybernetica).

As for the Arlatax i'd be tempted to convert a Domitar into them, imagine this...instead of the missile battery on the top a intake for the jets, and some jets on the back.

I personally don't care for the greenish color that they have now i was more looking at a base of a mix of black and gunmetal, black wash, highlight up to chainmail. matt black bits and some red here or there.

Thoughts on which units that fit with Iron Hands that I should really be going for, besides loads of Dreadnoughts (really love them Contemptor, Deredeo, and Leviathans).
