Screeching Screamer of Tzeentch

Greetings fellow dakkanauts! After a 3 year break or so I'm
Getting back into the swing of things. I used to play tau and marines but now I've found a new love. Chaos! The painting/modeling opportunities are too good to pass up plus I like how they play in game. I plan on doing a chaos marines plus demon allies army. While i plan on fielding units from all 4 orders i plan on making them all tzeentch flavoured. And i wanted to make it look like a possesed marine army, so i think a kitbash of vanilla marines and pink horrors is in order! The FLGS in my town is closed so I started by ordering a hell brute. But upon reading the rules I think I'd much prefer a soul grinder, (and an excuse to model ) so I broke out the hacksaw once he arrived.
Started off by chopping off his legs and melta arm
Proceeded to use some chaos bits and an auto cannon for his chest cannon. It does seem a little small but it was the only thing that fit in is teeny little mouth. (It's a grower not a shower)
Then proceeded to make an arm mounted heavy bolter out of a marine heavy bolter and assault cannon ammo drum attached to a soul grinder armor plate
And here's what he looks like so far as a rough mock up.
Do you guys think he would look better with the horns poining up or down?
I also promise better than potato quality pics in the future!
C & c welcome, see you guys next time

Very cool arrangement of the hellbrute bits, definitely see how it is going to turn out, should be monstrous. Looking forward to seeing more. Regarding the horns, both way could work nicely imho. Horns pointing up would maybe more expected and remind of the original hellbrute bit. Facing down is a more interesting choice I think, maybe have a go at adding something on top of the head to balance things out, but not sure it is needed at all... As long as the horns don't prevent it from turning its head, he should be fine !

Checking in again
Thanks for the feed back Dr cheese and kernel terror!
My age long wait for green stuff continues, and my amputee hell brute taunts me from my desk so I figured I'd share some plans and fluff! First up he needs another cc weapon, so I narrowed it down to either a flail or drill, what do you guys think? Any preferences out there?
Here's what I'd use for the drill. I'd have to fill in the gap with greenstuff but you get the idea.
And here is a drawing of an organic looking flail. I want it to look as if at one point it was a hand hence the knuckles and it was mutated through tzeenchs chaotic energies
Now for some fluff! (Not sure of a chapter name but bare with me)
Not long ago, there was a space marine chapter towards the heart of the imperium tasked with the defence of a critical system. Rarely seeing combat they waited and urged for the day they might earn glory through war. This gnawed away at the chapter master until one day he could take know more. Afraid of his name slipping way into the dusty recesses of time without ever having grand stories being told of him he made a pledge. A dark pledge. He beseeched tzeetnch for the time to earn his glory. For unending time to carve his name into history. But the price came at steep cost. 1000 lives would be tzeetnchs. The chapter master would turn his back on his brothers for his own gain. He signed their souls away, opening up a path from the warp, allowing every last one of his brothers to be possessed. Tzeentch had his army. But the chapter master should have known better than to strike a deal with the god fate and change. For while he would have his eternity, it would be one of suffering. Mutated into a husk of his former self, he would be paraded into battle by tzeentchs new army as a trophy.

Both are very cool designs, I think a way of choosing could be to consider whether you can get a pose that makes sense for the flail considering the other already positioned arm; in order to make it look like he is striking with it or such. The drill would, I believe, work in a much wider range of poses.
Keep it up !

I definitely think you're right, I would also have to assemble the legs before the flail to make sure they wouldn't be in each others way Automatically Appended Next Post: Thanks for the encouragement! I'll post pics as soon as my green stuff arrives

The flail looks to have a lot of potential. How will you make the flail?

Evildrcheese
I have a couple of armor plates from a defiler and the hellbrute that I would use for the arm but beyond that probably just greenstuff. Hopefully I would find some thing for the spiked ball but I don't have anything in mind right now. A marble maybe? Lol

It's me! I'm breaking my eon long silence. Sorry for the absence folks, 3 weeks in Thailand will do that to a person. I haven't purchased any new models as Im patiently waiting for 8th edition to come out and I'd like to have more competitive units instead of just cool looking things (I'd prefer to make them look cool ) so this has kind of turned into a soul grinder blog anyways! Here's the progress
Finished his chest plates and drill arm, did some gap filling and started bulking out his neck
Arm detail
Baby got back!
Until later dakka!

Good news! I just bought some pink horrors, flamers, and a demon prince online so there's more content on the way! I just have to not explode with anticipation before then. I also made some headway on the soul grinder got the head attached and finished off and the legs prepped to be put on

Checking in again! My horrors came in and I was like a 5 year old on Christmas. I pretty much have them all assembled minus the changeling conversion.
The soul grinder has legs now!
I didn't quite get the pose I desired as reposing the legs proved to be quite difficult. I was hoping for more of a hunched over look as if he was swinging low with his drill to take out some infantry. Unfortunately sculpting has slowed to a crawl due to me burning my thumb print off on my dominant hand
But in spite of that I finished a test model which Im happy with.
And the rest of the horrors
Thanks for looking dakka!

I'm back! And you guys thought you had gotten rid of me. Obviously with the date set for 8th edition I had to get my butt in gear. I'm patiently waiting to get my hands on the rule books and see what kind of cheeky chaos unit I want next but until then Ive almost finished my horrors. Slow and steady amiright?
Here's a group shot to start you off with
In my games with friends it's always been a pain to try and remember who in my squads of horrors has a bolt of change (for measuring of distance purposes) so I figured, why not make a guy casting it!
Took me the longest time to figure out what color to paint and eventually, I couldn't decide on one or two so I just used all the colors! I figured it also stuck with the fluff fairly well as the 5th edition demons codex describes the bolt of change as a multicolored beam of light that melts metal and vaporizes flesh
Here is my first attempt at nmm. I'll really appreciate any c&c as i feel like I got close but failed to make a believable effect.
Something I really wanted to convey was just how powerful tzneetchs magics are and that uncontrollable mutation follows in its wake. I sculpted flames onto the fauna of this guy's base suggesting that even being barely brushed by warp fire is enough to be set ablaze, but I went a step further making the plant sprout scales and an eye (maybe even gaining sentience?)
Here are some more pics for those interested
And finally the first flamer of 3. He was a pain in the ass to paint and I'm not particularly happy with him either. Despite applying thin glazes I seem to have lost a lot of detail, especially on the bouquet of faces he has. C&c much appreciated, always looking to better myself
See you guys next time and have a happy 8th!
