Good evening, I just picked up a set of crisis suits and broadside and am looking to build a more casual tau list at 1850 for playing against dark eldar, and various flavors of marines. The dark eldar player is a strategical genius, the marine players are more tactically challenged. I currently have:
2 stormsurge
3riptides
2 ghostkeel
4 commanders
18 crisis suits
4 broadsides
6 stealth suits
30 kroot
1 krootox
3 kroot hounds
40 fire warriors
12 pathfinder
1 hammerhead
3 pirhanas
~100 drones of various loadout
I was thinking a FSE monat spam would be fluffy and fun, filling out 3 CAD charts. Would that be something a casual gamer would be able to handle. I am not interested in purposely gimping a list by not taking markerlights or ways to handle various threats, I wouldn't be doing them any service to them, and wouldn't be worthy of commanding tau. My typical lists consist of OSCs, drone nets, a few big suits and crisis bombs and it isn't any fun for most people to end up on the ropes after the second shooting phase.

Try to win with the bottom half of your list, from kroot down. If you find yourself outmatched start adding in the top half.

DE usually have a rough time vs Tau, its just a bad match up for them. When your basic troops have extended range and glance on a 5+, it makes for an uphill battle. Not to mention missile broadsides.

I'm in a similar boat in an escalation league with Tau. Trying to keep it lighthearted, so I have a heavy kroot presence(dogs and riders), an ethereal, a sunshark, and a few piranhas here and there. Good luck!
