I am starting a GK/SM army, and ran across a problem in the codices. My army was going to have 2 squads of Space Marines + 1 squad of scouts with an Inquisitor + 6 GK Termies.

It says that you cannot include Grey Knights if Space Marines are present. I shrugged it off thinking it was just the troops, as I clearly saw an example pic on page 33 a unit of GK termies and some space marines. However what confuses me is that in the Army List area (page 20) that Grey Knights refers to most of the units including Termies and the grunts...

Any idea if what I am doing is legal?

Does it depend on which is the parent list?

Help!!

My take on it has always been that if you are using an Inquisitor list you can't take space marine allies if you have GKs, but if you are taking a marine list you can take GK aliies, so it depends on which is the parent list

Hmm ok thanks.

So this would be legal:

HQ:

Master + Command squad

=I= Lord + retinue

ELITE:

6 GK Terms

TROOPS:

15 Space Marines

6 Scouts

10 =I= stormtroopers

Assuming the Space Marines are in two squads. (Since max squad size is 10 for most marines)

Oklahoma City, Ok.

"Does it depend on which is the parent list?"

exactly!

the way i read it is if you have a SM parent list, then yes you can include them.
if it's a DH parent list with Greyknights then no allied SM.
i remember something to the effect of Greyknights would never ask "normal" SM chapter for help of some such.

Um... burning heretics is the Ordo Hereticus' (the Witch Hunters) schtick.  And going after xenos is the Ordo Xenos' schtick.

Neither of which is the Ordo Malleus (the Daemon Hunters)... but we get your point.   Happy hunting.

Does anyone seriously think that an Inquistorial force that comes into conflict with an enemy not in their specfic "folio" is going to just leave them to those "responisible" for them? I can just see it now...

Grey Knight: "Oh, I see; you're not ravening Chaos cultists, you're just heretics who think the Emperor has been reborn in your rubber ducky. Well, that's not really our department, since there aren't daemons around; if you'll just wait here, I'll call the Ordo Hereticus, and they will be along shortly to handle your case. Oh, and don't tell them I mentioned the "d-word" or the "Ch-word"; upper management frowns on it..."

Shoot first, establish jurisdiction later.

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

No, but I can see a Grey Knight force showing up, finding no actual daemonic activity, repressing the xenos uprising, and then executing the Planetary Governor and his staff for wasting their time and Imperial resources.
