Hi Guys

Im planning on building up one of these bad boys just because it looks so awesome. Being a new player and having not played many games i havent seen one on the table and was wondering if it was even worth it or a waste of time and effort. I dont like that they can only hold 6 dooders but i guess i can throw some Normal guys in and try blast stuff away.

So in short are they worth their points and the time and effort im going to put into making one. I play Death Guard btw.

Thanks Ub

The Archilles Alpha is an odd tank indeed. On the one hand it looks super amazing. But on the other hands are the drawbacks you allready mentioned. (plus it is not an assault vehicle)

Being a Death Guard Player myself. I can tell you of another hinderance, that keeps me from running my Achilles most of the time: to much competition in the heavy support slot. (Grave Wardens are just to iconic and hard hitting not to take, and against a Leviatan or the Spartan to deliver a ten Death Schrouds right in the middle of the enemy line, there is just no place for tank that's basicly a 250+ points thudd gun with two Volkite culverin.

The only semi viable way to field it, that I found is as transport for Tactical Support Marines with either Melta or Volkite Chargers, but that makes it even bigger of a pointsink.

The Achilles isn't a transport. It has 'transport' in its typeline and you can put dudes in it, but if you're taking it primarily to use it as a transport it's a terrible choice. Think of it as a more mobile/more durable quad-mortar and use it to wander about exploding things your Rapier carriages can't get at and it'll do better.

Balanced Game: Noun. A game in which all options and choices are worth using.

I got one too since I have an old LR chassis sitting around collecting dust that was missing the side sponsons.

I haven't played it yet but it seems like an annoying unit for the enemy to have to deal with since it's a LR with built in Armored Ceramiete.

It spits out great anti-horde without giving you that dirty feeling of running 3 quad launchers.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Edit* It also ignores the Lance USR, not sure if that is part of Armored Ceramite, but just makes it that much tougher.

For the points it also has a built in Dozer blade and extra armor.

Also worth noting, not sure if my version of the rules is outdated, the quad launcher has the Shell Shock special rule, so pinning is taken an -1 LD (and barrage weapons have pinning in 30K)

Again, it's 300+ points so not uber competitve, but in bigger games I think it would have a good home in an Iron Fire list for my IW.

Stick a techmarine in it making it a pita to kill and use it as his limo to get where he can be useful.

Your last point is especially laughable and comical, because not only the 7th ed Valkyrie shown dumber things (like being able to throw the troopers without parachutes out of its hatches, no harm done) - Irbis
