So I managed to nab the Deathwatch half of the Death Masque box (was floating in the wild), and looking what you'd consider the next "essential" purchases, and why

For the most part I'm looking to get a solid 500pts list down, and a solid 1k - But most importantly, to have fun!

I have read a lot that Deathwatch are better as allies, and if thats the case the only other force I'd fancy allying to be honest would be Inquisition, as not a particular fan of normal Space Marines or IG

Thoughts/Suggestions?

First you should head over straight to anvil industries and order like 10 frag cannons. You'll also want more veterans, a few drop pods and maybe a HQ that isnt artemis. 500 points equals about 15 models on the table. In such small games you'll want as many stock veterans as possible. They can deal with just about anything that isnt a well armored vehicle. Mind your short eange, buy cheap transports for them. Rhinos and drop pods are cheap. A occasional Razorback adds long range anti-armour potential.
Dont field blackstars in low point games, you'll need all your firepower right at turn one.

Cheap transports are lifesavers. Frag cannons and Infernus Heavy Bolters are Assault weapons, so you can fire them out the top of a moving Rhino quite easily, and the Rhino is an immensely cost-effective way of getting more durability out of your squads.

The option to take one or two man Bike/VV squads in Fast Attack helps immensely with mobility and flexibility in small games, too. An army of just Veterans is going to give you two units and a Librarian at best, with the bikes you force the other guy to deal with many more targets and you can threaten a lot more of the field.

Balanced Game: Noun. A game in which all options and choices are worth using.
