Hello All

I read that there was an update on GW AOS app that now included Army builder, so excited to be able to do everything under one app, i did the download and was disappointed. First this update may cause the app to run slower than normal, 2nd you may have to refresh certain information to display because everything starts off locked but refreshing it will unlock it if it was purchased prior to the update. 3rd the army builder is a paid monthly service!?!?!? That does not make any sense, do they not know that there are free services that can accommodate our needs to build a list (Warscroll builder for example). Just seems like GW is out to pull pennies from our pockets. Has anyone updated the app and came out with the same conclusion??

Yes companies exist to make money. THey provide a service that that is deemed useful, people will spend money on it.

If you don't find it useful or someone competes with a better product that is cheaper or free, people will flock to that instead.

Thats how markets work.

Isn't it 99p per month or something trivial to have all the latest points embedded? Not see the update but as a regular user this only seems a good thing to me.

Just got the update, the monthly expense surprised me but then I saw some of the extra features the Azyr gave like being able topersonalize and export your list so that seems fair enough.

Sad about how toned down the app looks compared to the previous one, even has a smaller thumbnail. Gonna miss the title page of the Stormcast and Khorne warrior fighting. :(

A 99c monthly fee for points updates without having to buy the handbook or the new tome? I think that is amazing, since that alone should cover you for rules requirements when attending an event. No more having to buy the lates tome to keep your army updated.

Kinda bummed now I just shelled out for GH1 but probably still worth it for the battle plans.

I don't have the app myself, but the following is from Facebook:

New AOS "Azyr" App questions / concerns:
Questions and concerns:

1) How do I remove a unit or Warscroll Battalion from the army list? Once I add them they seem stuck.

2) If you change your allegiance from one to another it does not invalidate the battle line units (such as if you start stormcast you can select judicators as battle line, and then change to order they are still a valid battle line to the app even though this is not right)

3) All points are locked in the "my battle" view even if you own the books.

4) No way to see the warscroll itself from the "Azyr" part of the app so when I am building the army I am constantly switching back and forth between warscrolls (having to re-find the units as it keeps resetting my view) and the new 'Azyr" view. Please make a link to the warscroll view from within Azyr itself.

5) No method for making non standard point lists such as 1500 points etc.

6) Azyr does not check to make sure that your Army is actually valid: Example: I made an army with 2 units of liberators, 1 unit of Judicators, a Lord Celestant and a Tempest Lords Harbinger Battalion and it said it was valid. This is clearly not valid as the Battalion does not have any of its requirements met. Also as you can not see the requirements for the stallion without going back to the warscroll view it makes the experience very clunky and non user friendly.

7) Does not filter allegiance for open play, such as savage orks are listed as an order unit if you make an open play army list.

8) No way to make non-full sized units (such as there is no way to make a unit of 6 liberators, even in open and narrative play where it can happen, you must choose ONLY 5/10/15/etc.).

9) Forces Matched Play unit minimum count restrictions on all units for open and narrative play as opposed to the "unit" minimum restrictions listed on the warscroll.

10) No way to mark what units are in what battalion.

11) No easy way to get from "My Battle" to "Azyr" - there should be a button to go back and forth if you are making people use the My Battle part of the app to use their Azyr army lists. Example: View a liberator unit in Azyr and try and check the Liberator warscroll, you press 2 back buttons then press the warscroll button on the bottom then type "liberators" at the top of the screen or scroll around to find it and then click on the warscroll itself to open it. This should be a 1 click link from the Azyr listing.

12) Only way to get to many buttons is by "hidden" scrolling, such as the use picture for a unit button is hidden until you scroll down just enough to hide the units picture

13) No way to 'undo' using custom images. Once you select to use a custom image, you are stuck with it forever.

14) Does not verify weapon load outs, such as my 1 unit 5 liberators can apparently carry (at the same time) 5 Grand Hammers AND 5 Grandblades, AND have 6 Liberator Primes. How do you have 6 liberator primes in a unit of 5 liberators?

15) Battleline does not show all battleline units unless you are in matched play, such as apparently Ironjawz has 0 battleline options even if you have the Allegiance set to Ironjawz unless you are in matched play.

16) May buttons are still very small and hard to press on a small screen.

17) It still only lets you have one army at a time / mixes the units in the "My Battle" part of the app so you can not use it easily for 2 player games (?).

18) Several other items, however this post is already quite long so I will post those another time.

Overall, disappointing however it does show promise of being useful in the future. Several of the core features such as point views, finding units and accurate detection of purchases are broken and the new features such as the take a picture of your unit are hidden and buggy as well however the new development work at all shows that they have at least not abandoned it and the new $ from the subscription hopefully can help fund development work.
When you compare it to other competitors applications on the market today, you find that with GW's app you have no way to track game progress, no way to track multiple armies, no way to mark what units are in what battalion, etc. which makes it quite feature light, so there is much work for their team to do yet.

Seems like its a public beta test.

Bit annoyed my general handbook purchase no longer gets me points. Thay said I'll probably pay $18 a year for continuously updated points. Bit annoy as well at the not full updating of warscroll by the time they come out.

@ Hulksmash, i hear you on that. The warscrolls for the Tzeentch Arcanites were not updated to reflect the inserts from the Disciple of Tzeentch.

Well, its the first day release, so hopefully they're working on it.

Got it and it's not bad. It essentially replaces Battlescribe for me on my phone for AoS.

It would have been worth it if it was like War Room; you pay a fee (flat or monthly or whatever) and get access to all the battalions and other things locked behind a paywall. As it stands, you're paying $1.50 a month to get a rudimentary army builder. You still have to pay extra to unlock the Battalion scrolls and Battleplans and such. Scrollbuilder is better and free IMHO.

Here here Wayniac

I just feel if we are going to be paying for a service (regardless of price) we should be getting more bang for our bucks and not a copy cat of something we can get for free. I get that companies need to make money, if they were to really think about it, having us pay a monthly installment of $5-10 a month but access to all battletomes/packs and a more well-thought out army builder. GW can easily make more money off of us than it ever could attempting to sell those books and pack individually.

I wouldn't mind it if I wasn't still having functionality problems and even that would be fine if they were keeping the warscrolls up to date. But paying monthly for unupdated warscrolls and me not being sure they are going to actually update points is meh. I'll hold off until I see if they improve and then I might go in. Just so I don't have to worry about points or pulling out books.

I have to say, the monthly fee completely kills it for me. I know $.99 is fairly trivial once a month, however it seems like like just another money grab that puts a bad taste in my mouth. Take a look at Corvus Belli's Infinity. They have an Army Builder App, that seems very similar to what GW has here. The Infinity Army Builder app, is not only available on desktop as well, but its completely free. And yes, any changes or updates to unit points or rules, are updated in the army builder. If Infinity can do it for free, I don't see any reason why GW can't as well.

See I don't see it as a money grab. I see it as a service and I'm good with paying for a service. IF the service is providing what I need. This currently isn't but has the potential to do so.

Count me among those disappointed that warscrolls still aren't consistently kept up to date. I mean seriously, it isn't that hard.
