Subject: Guard of the Crimson King - useless without Magnus?
Yes, it looks great - Sekhmet as toops, 2d6 for Warp charges and picking the highes, deepstrike and re-rolling 1s on invuln, but then you see that your Warlord must have the same cult as the compulsory troops. A ML3 Praetor with Telekinesis is just gak and Pyromancy isn't that great IMHO and otherwise the Sekhmet won't get the +1 invuln and the 3+ to casting powers, other cults benefit them even less. Therefore a question to fellow space egyptian wizards - how do you use this RoW if you use it at all?

Well Magnus makes it from decent to really great.
Unfortunately you do have to keep your Warlord the same cult but this right isn't great in smaller games anyways. You are far better off using it in 2k or more when Magnus slots in any you still have points left over.
At lower points I think normal pride works better because tsons Veterans are great and you can make them corvidae and take Ahriman who brings a load of psychic die. Once you can take Magnus Sekhmet and bring some firepower to back it up it becomes one of the best rights of War.
It is called guard of the Crimson King for a reason it's built for Magnus.
Edit:
On another level though scoring 2w 4++ isn't bad anyways and you get ml2 free force weapons asphyx shells and discounted combi weapons.
You cold always run them on a different cult use them ar great objective taking units as well as power dice generators at 2wc each both squads five you 4 that's amazing for the points in troops section.
3+ casting is nice but you don't always need to be casting with Sekhmet it's quite easy to spend your dice elsewhere. As well as sure 3++ is great but mental fortitude isn't bad from telepathy and biomancy if you run the Praetor with them then you already fixed this issue with endurance. As 2w eternal warrior 4++ 4+++ is already bonkers.

? Ahriman or a ML3 praetor are pretty solid choices.
(Kinda annoyed Amon isn't on the list but ah well.) I like the deep strike option and its hard to say no to more warp charge.
Telekinesis isn't he best discipline, but it isn't awful either. And you aren't locked in.
FawZample.
Take a Ratora Praetor and Raptora Sekhmet.
Roll biomancy on the lord. You manifest on 4's, but you still have more psychic dice than any other 30k army so why worry.
Or
Take a Pavoni Praetor and Pavoni Sekhmet. Don't bother casting with Sekhmet,as that's not really what they're for, and rock out with the great bio mancy powers. Lose the +1 invul on the Sekhmet, but that was cheese anyway lol.

Probably stuff a power sword onto the apothecary with the remaining 10 points. Praetor goes with a Sekhmet unit and rolls biomancy, accepting that he's going to cast on 3's in exchange for a 3++ all the time. Libby goes with rotor squad, everyone else does the obvious. Termies will grab levitation and probably ObMech or Maelstrom depending on who and what I'm up against and how lucky I'm feeling in regard to perils.
I don't think that GotCK is useless at all without Magnus, though I suspect that many are overestimating that 2d6 pick the highest since as a psychically dominant army, you actually want the lower result for the psychic phase to minimise the lucky dispels.
