Hey guys,

A few years back i remember this really great thread where people designed their own stupidly over powered heroes with rules and fluff. I thought it would be great to have another one!

Disclaimer: I know the backstory is incredibly generic and predictable but i personally think its awesome.

"Once a great wolf lord, Ryken led his Space Wolves into countless war zones across the galaxy. However it was during the siege of Fenris that he would lead his brothers into battle for the last time.
Whilst en-route to defend a tribal settlement from the onslaught of chaos a demon prince of Tzeentch fell upon his squad, incinerating his men in foul warp fire. Ryken and what was left of his men battle the demon until only it and him were
left standing. It was only when a Blackmaned wolf leapt onto the burning wreckage of their land raider and pounded on the demon prince that Ryken was able to deliver the a decisive blow. With his entire squad nothing more than burning carcasses Ryken
pressed on to the tribal settlements that were under siege. Despite his efforts he was too late, upon arriving he found the inhabitants slaughtered, with some captured or sacrificed to the dark gods.
Despite nothing but lifeless bodies surrounding him he was not alone, the Blackmaned wolf had followed him, the reason for his loyalty is unknown however many believe that the wolf chose to join Ryken after watching him fight so fearlessly. Ryken and his wolf, Ukri, now fight side by side and the army of two lead the charge together into the most dangerous of conflicts.

The day they met on Fenris, Ryken swore an oath that as long as he drew breath he would protect the lives of every innocent, no matter the personal cost, the guilt over the loss of his squad haunting him to this day. Until he has avenged every fallen brother and proven he is worthy
to lead again he fights with only his Blackmane by his side. In Fenrisian myth the Blackmanes serve in the afterlife as minions of Morkai, some believe the Blackmaned wolves have mystical powers and according to legend, one who crosses into the afterlife with a Blackmane at his side will never truly die"

Interesting, I usually come up with minor backstory and names for my main dudes but I usually put off outright making stat lines for them. I might consider it for a bit of amusement.

also, just of note. as I read your character, I notice that he has one specialist weapon (The Claw) and a power sword, wouldn't it be fluffier to give him a second claw with a slightly different profile or make the sword unique as well?

Why would you ever need the sword for this character? The claw outclasses it in every way?

it could be for fluff reasons pertaining to his guy, but as I said in the previous post, it would be better to either give him a second claw (or make the world claws a pair) with specialist weapon to gain the +1 attack bonus or make the sword a unique weapon with it's own special effects and the specialist rule in order to make it fluffier and sync better with the use of the claw.

If it's a fluff reason, then surely it should remain a sword and not a claw? If the sword was given unique abilities, then that just mounts up the cost. I'd personally suggest to weaken the claw so that the sword does actually have a purpose other than fluff. Perhaps making the claw unwieldy, so therefore making the sword a better option against MEQ and GEQ targets?

Of course, if it's just fluff, so be it, but at the moment, it's kinda useless from a gaming perspective.

Also, base 4 Attacks is very high - most Captain equivalents only get 3.
Why does his wolf give him +2 Strength, and no marked extra Attack?

Being able to revive at a full 3 Wounds is VERY strong. He get 5 Wound of a powered up statline, and then another 3 with less stats, but a shedload of (limited) Special Rules?
What about Instant Death? If a Demolisher Cannon IDs the first profile, does he get to stand up again even though if he gets hit again he dies instantly too?

he actually has 5 attacks base and 4 wounds when on the wolf. it's a bit hard to make out the stat line, and although I do agree he is pretty powerful with those stats in CC, he is restricted from joining units so he would be very easy to gun down and has mediocre shooting.

Ah, yes, only 4 Wounds on the mount.

But 5 Base? And added with the extra attack from a Thunderwolf mount taking it up to 6? That's a lot of attacks, more than Chapter Masters.

Shooting tends to be irrelevant on Space Marine leaders all the same, no real loss there. The only downside is not being able to join a unit, but you're fast, T5 W4 2+/4++, and can instantly regain 3 Wounds at a cost of your Toughness and speed.

Looking at him, he kind of feels like a one time steamroller... the "your opponent takes him once and you ignore him only to be torn apart by him. the next time your opponent runs him, he barely makes it through first turn" sort of deal.

the only way to really balance that out is to lower his output, and therefore reduce his price so that he is less of a one man steamroller and more of a tactical chaser. use him to keep your opponents priority characters on the move.

Mechanically, I mean. It will take 2 turns to have 65% chance, three for an 80% chance, and four turns gives nearly a 90% chance.

Yeah, his low leadership means that there's a slightly under 50% chance of him turning into a Keeper of Secrets at any given turn.

Aside from that, he's pretty weak. No real AP, aside from a Rending chainsword, a 3+/5++ save on 3 Wounds. Essentially an unupgraded Chaos Lord, with a few small rules here and there.

Overall, I'd stick him at 115 without turning into a Keeper of Secrets. If I were to still let him turn into one, it would depend on the chance of it happening. As it is now, as slightly under 50%, it would be highly costed. If it was reduced, maybe to a single dice throw and on a 1 he transforms, that would be a far lower cost.

No, being able to be a Keeper is pretty much the fun part of the character, and that should stay, but I'd say that the probability of it needs tweaking. If it were "Roll a d6 at the start of the player turn. On a 1, the model is replaced with a Keeper of Secrets." Tying it to such a low leadership wouldn't be ideal.

Colonel Leon Shay .... 95 points

Colonel Leon Shay of the Ricochet 18th “Crashlanders” is a decades-long veteran of battle in the Sefirem sector. The black sheep of a respected Ricochite Naval family, his thirst for glory in battle has earned him an impressive record and the respect of his men, but also a reputation as a troublemaking maverick.

Shay is possessed of both ferocious bravery and a roguish anti-authoritarian streak that appeals to the unruly clanners he leads. Despite his “posh” background he refuses to stand on ceremony, and appears to relish taking the same risks as his men. Unfortunately he is consistently undermined by his colossal ego and temper. Despite his talent for command (and several ill-advised attempts to force the issue) Shay’s rise through the ranks was slow and hard-won. He and his men were thrown repeatedly into the worst of what Sefirem had to offer: cult suppression in the Bordermarches, the slaughter and flight on Quinoa, and brutal knife-fight void actions in the echoing halls of the Shallows.

Through luck, ruthlessness, and bloody-minded pluck, Shay has survived. Although his ego has mellowed somewhat with age and responsibility, he still enjoys tweaking the nose of younger peers who did not also earn their rank through blood and fire.

Warlord Trait (Shrouded and Counterattack on all models disembarking from Drop Pods in the detachment within in 18"/low Ld anyway, so unlikely to be Warlord if another SM HQ is around) = 15

I'm purely going off of the medi-kit profile for a CCS, which grants FNP 5+ to a squad. This FNP is a 4+, but only for one model. However, the everpresent aspect of it could add another 5/10 points on.

And anyone who's a character can be your Warlord-not just the dude with the highest leadership. So you can easily make him your Warlord, making that trait hella strong.
Yes, I see - In which case, adding another ten to that.
However, it is only for models in his Detachment, so Skyhammer wouldn't be affected (unless Unbound counts as a detachment?)
I may also consider adding a rule like "Acting-Captain - Aurelius may only be selected as Warlord if he has the highest or drawn Leadership in the army." That would mean that any other HQ choice, barring a Techmarine or someone like Telion or Chronus, would trump Aurelius and prevent him from being the Warlord.

In which case I'd have to take the MC rule off the Reforged Paragon Blade, saving points, and then reapplying them to the grav pistol, balancing it regardless.

It's Etna, from Disgaea. I just added Stellar Queen because that's exactly the sort of thing she'd call herself.
