Hi, I never moved on from 6th edition (was too pissed at how fast 7th came out), and was wondering what 7th 'fixed'. I saw that a 7th edition Dark Angels codex was released and that always surprised me as I assumed 7th would just refer to the 6th one anyway. Did I miss out on much?

7th is mostly a maintenance edition that fixed issues with 6th. There's now a prominent keyword called 'Snap Shots' to cover any 'only hits on 6s' mechanics, things that would have been 'may not fire' in earlier editions are now 'fires snap shots'. Jinking is a decision made defensively rather than just a free cover save, so bikes and skimmers are less dominant (it's still good, but if you jink you only fire snap shots the next turn so you lose out on firepower). Formations for normal-sized games got introduced in 7th, as well as meta-formations (detachments composed of a number of formations rather than units); you can get a bunch of scary bonuses by playing heavily restricted selections of units.

But given that we've got 8e fast-approaching now it may not be that worth paying attentino.

Balanced Game: Noun. A game in which all options and choices are worth using.

Yeah I have heard about 8th, so wasnt planning on investing in 7th. We play pretty casually and not very often, so it was more out of curiosity to see if we missed out on anyway. We have never bought anything like those formations I see, and still pick our armies the more old fashion way. It sounds like we didn't miss out on too much if we weren't too concerned about the new force structure then...
