With the books for the new 40k revealed, I thought it would be interesting to see how many if any books people are planning to buy at launch.

I'm personally aiming for Main rule book and for the armies I play, both Xenos books(Tyranids, Dark Eldar) and Space Marines(Dark Angels).

I'm going to get the main rulebook from the starter set, because for whatever reason the starter sets are my favorite GW products. I will also get Imperial I.

I will get the main rulebook and the chaos index. I will buy the starter set probably unless I can buy those models outside of the starter set

I will be getting the main rules, the Chaos rules, and all the Xenos.

Getting BGB, Xenos 1, Xenos 2, and Chaos Indexes for sure. I have no interest in IoM, but may still get those indexes (reading they may be $25 which is tolerable) just to know the rules of 70% of the armies I'll probably be facing...

currently playing: ASoIF | Warhammer 40k: Kill Team

other favorites:

Main rulebook and sooner or later need to get all indexes if I want to use all armies in 8th ed with matched play as I have army or two from every one of them...

Will start with IG and ork including ones though. That covers most of my needs.

BRB and the Sisters/ImpyGuard one.

I'll have to debate whether or not to get the SM one to support my Space Wolves.

Guardsmen, hear me! Cadia may lie in ruin, but her proud people do not! For each brother and sister who gave their lives to Him as martyrs, we will reap a vengeance fiftyfold! Cadia may be no more, but will never be forgotten; our foes shall tremble in fear at the name, for their doom shall come from the barrels of Cadian guns, fired by Cadian hands! Forward, for vengeance and retribution, in His name and the names of our fallen comrades!

All of them. I own 10k pts of Orks, 8k pts of Dark Angels and at least 2k pts of Chaos, Demons, Tau, Deathwatch, Necrons, all 3 flavors of Eldar(combined), Genestealer Cults, and Imperial Knights-Inquisition-Assassins-Admech.

Edited to add Genestealer Cults, forgot about them from the board game.

Krieg! What a hole...

None, I am waiting for FW to update their Krieg lists, and as for my Stormtroopers, waiting to see if they're still playable on their own

I plan on just playing with the starter and main rulebook until I get the hang of things. Chances are pretty good I will expand on the starter box factions little by little. But seeing as how DG are due for an expanded release beyond the starter contents...I expect them to get an actual codex or book of their own sometime.

All of them. I have painted over 2500 points of Necrons and access to over 10,000 points of Imperium forces, plus smatterings of Tau, Tyranids, Chaos, and Orks. The question is what army will I want to play first.

I also like to have printed rules over digital. Plus, having the books with the different factions help when trying to introduce a kid or total newbie to a wargame. My step-daugther was originally interested in Tyranids, we will have to see if that is still the case in the coming months.

Just the core for the updated fluff and so I can keep theorizing. I'll get the indexes digital if I can since I doubt it will have fluff. If I was guaranteed of games I would need to get one for Tau, Dark Eldar, and Deathwatch.

Initially I'll just be going with Xenos 1 and the main rule book as I'm wanting to bring my Necrons back out for the first few games. Once I've got the hang of the changes I'll start alternating with my Harlequins as well.

main rulebook to ensure basic rules down, am hoping for digital releases of the rest. I don't feel like lugging a lot of book around and am annoyed the starter set does not have a small softcover pocket edition like in the past. my FLGS is on the upper level of a mall and I have enough of a annoyance with going through a department store to enter the mall with a suitcase of minis along with the occasional questions/ requests to search my property(I never grant it, produce a letter from my follow gamer who is a lawyer and proceed unmolested) I don't desire the extra attention a backpack would garner.

Main rulebook and the non-marine Imperial book. Pretty convenient, as I'm a Guard player with interests in supporting IoM factions, so I can safely ignore the big ol book'o'marines and the rest of the books.

I'll be getting the digital versions though if those are available from the get go (and hopefully a little cheaper, but probably not). Gotta make use of the tablet the wife got me.

I'm going with all of them since I haven't played much since 4th Ed and I am starting over from scratch. I like to know how all armies work since it makes it easier to tell if things are on the level. Plus I will probably branch out and get multiple armies ag some point.

I'll eventually get all of them like I did with the GA books in AoS, but I'll start with the BRB, Imperial I for my Blood Ravens, and Xenos I for my Necrons. Possibly Imperial II for my Knights.

I play Eldar & Daemons, so I will definitely be getting the Main rules, Eldar and Chaos Indexes and the Space Marine Index (know thy enemy and all that).

If the indexes are cheap enough (i.e. closer to $20 than $30) I'll likely get all of them. It will be nice to know all the rules for the game for once, even if it might not last long due to Codices being released later.

Definitely the Xenos book for Nids. Will wait to see if I enjoy the game before getting the Aeldari book for Dark Eldar. Also curious about Ynnari.

Want the MRB for advanced rules and background.

I am tempted by the Starter set because of the Nurgle stuff. Very characterful abd Death Guard would make a good alternative to DE and Nids

I'm planning to get Imperial II for my IG and Xenos II for my Orks, but I'm terrified how easily I'll be enabled to expand into SoB, AdMech, Knights, GSC, Nids, etc. all from two books. It feels like a very effective model to increase sales from actual model kits while not shoving book after book down players' throats just so they can use a couple specific units.

I'm honestly not sure about buying the big rulebook. The free core rules and being able to skim over someone else's for matched play and FoC until I memorize those rules would probably be significantly cheaper. I don't think I really need 280 pages for stuff that's not specific to any particular armies.

I was planning to try out 8th via the free rules. After 7 editions of the game, I am not willing to invest further money in the rules until I see some game play and have an idea of how each army plays - especially after being burned by 'Nids.

I'll be getting the main rules Imperial I & II and Xenos I for sure - but I may wait on Chaos till the actual Codex since I have lots of other things to keep me busy and they're a very casual 1,000 point army anyway.
