So, this might have been addressed already and if so I apologize, just reference me to the thread so I can get some info. I have not gotten my hands on the new rulebook or any of the army books yet. I do plan on buying at least the Imperial Faction Book 1 for my BA, RG and DW armies. I have just recently started a RG army as I have really fallen in love with their fluff plus they go well with my DW background that I am building. I have Kayvaan Shrike and bought 2 units of Vanguard Vets to accompany him, kind of like his personal body guard and I have built them with most having dual LC's as I personally like the look and LC have always imo done well in CC. Now with so many changes with 8th I am quite concerned that I now have models that will be just, meh. Is my concern valid or am I good to go forward with my builds?

Dual lightning claws are still pretty good: S user AP -2 D1, re-rolling to wound with +1 attack. Shrike will also allow all friendly Raven Guard within 6" to re-roll all failed to-hit rolls in shooting or assault. You may have a little trouble with units that have both high toughness and 2+ saves, but otherwise they should be quite solid.

Lighting Claws are horde killers, and with how powerfull Hordes are in 8th... they are gonna be usefull.

And they are the most cool looking weapon of 40k

Dakka does have White Knights and is also rather infamous for it's Black Knights. A new edition brings out the passionate and not all of them are good at expressing themselves in written form. There have been plenty of hysterical responses from both sides so far. So we descend into pointless bickering with neither side listening to each other. So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

This is true, Especially with Shrike's Re-Roll To Hits and Failed Charges.

Awesome. Thanks, knowing I can breathe a little easier with my decision to go that way, especially late that late in the game with 7th winding down and 8th launching. Now to go get the books so I can buy my Sternguard Vets and properly equip them.

Does shrikes to hit re-roll special rule apply to himself? Seems pretty powerfull to re-roll to hit and wound. Makes him very reliable. He should be pretty good at finishing of monsters in mele as well as taking on hordes methinks.

His pattern of returning alive after being declared dead occurred often enough during Cain's career that the Munitorum made a special ruling that Ciaphas Cain is to never be considered dead, despite evidence to the contrary.

He's a Raven Guard, and Characters are considered within their own auras, so he can hit on a rerollable 2+ and charge with a reroll.

Rerollable is considerably better on a unit that has 6+ to hit than it is on one that is already hitting on a 2+. It's not as OP as it sounds at first glance, and is absolutely fine.

Chance to hit with reroll - Chance to hit without = Difference

2+ rerolled: (5/6 + 1/6*5/6) - 5/6 = 5/36
6+ rerolled: (1/6 + 5/6*1/6) - 1/6 = 5/36

Does the same thing. It's almost twice as effective on 4+, though.

It makes the 6+ twice as effective as it was (almost.) It only marginally raises the 2+ which is already doing really well.

On 6 attacks, a 2+ goes from hitting almost all of them to hitting all of them. A 6+ goes from hitting one to hitting twice as many as that. We can assume that it was hitting on a 6+ for a reason (maybe it was dirt cheap) and you've just doubled its potential.

Depends on your perspective, I guess. It has the same absolute effect, just feels like you're doing more with the 6+ to hit.
