So I've been reading over the new rules for CSM and Eldar(or whatever they're called now. I wasn't playing during this change). Now I'm at the crossroads most players are at that own multiple armies. What army do I play, and which one do I put on the shelf? Players at my shop don't use forgeworld stuff. So that helps a bit. Eldar are seem like the right choice due to being overpowered for the last 2 editions. On the other hand Khorne Berzerkers and Daemon Princes seem down right nasty. I also have 2 Imperial Knights, I have yet to build to supplement the chaos. What are your experiences with CSM and Eldar? Any trap units? Any all stars? I could use some input since I don't get to play that much. Thanks for the insight!

If you have two armies, why not play both? If you want to concentrate on modeling one, pick the one you "like" best, regardless of the game rules surrounding it.

Go through them all! I've so far played with my Nids and Chaos, and still have yet to use my Eldar, Harlequins, or Genestealer Cult! I played my Nids first because they're the ones I was most excited to try out, since they were so bad before that I was just crossing my fingers that they'd be good. So far, they have been!

Nobody is quite sure what the 'op' builds are yet. So far the consensus seems to be:

Hordes Hordes Hordes
Eldar have been nerfed heavily, people are still arguing if its to the ground yet or not.
Wave serpents + Guard spam
Chaos lost all of the fun stuff they got at the end of the edition, but so did everyone else
Chaos is going to get a lot of new releases right away, due to the new "Imp v Chaos" mentality GW has

It doesn't matter if you're not dominating the game; if you have 3-4 x as many models and options than the rest of us and you're still getting new kits, we're still gonna rip on the faction. If I had 100 + Drukhari kits all in plastic to choose from, or 100 + Sisters kits, I think I'd be more likely to be receptive to Space Marine player's complaints about anything.

The game doesn't need super space marines, it needs more variety.
I don't want the best army, just one that isn't an exercise in picking up my models by turn 3.

'Straya... Mate.

Umm play both! There is no limited time on this edition, give both a try and see what you enjoy!

I could be wrong here as I haven't actually tried it and so haven't looked for the rules concerning said thing, but I'm pretty sure you can just take multiple detachments from any army you want. I don't remember seeing anything like the old alliance charts or anything. Play both!

Thanks for the input guys! Seeing as the vast majority of my CSM are actually built(needs tons of painting), I may focus on the building the Eldar just to get them up and running.

Damn son, have you missed 40k 1e-7e?

(With the caveat that in 6e-7e GW actively tried to kill of the CSM playerbase)

It's a pretty reasonable statement to make. Chaos has largely been the 'joke threat' to the galaxy. Certainly compared to unstoppable waves of tyranids eating everything and even outmaneuvering the entire galaxy to come up from below.

The 13 Black Crusades largely had more in common with the Keystone Kops than any meaningful strategy.

Efficiency is the highest virtue.

Meanwhile, the IOM receives at least one update for every xenos/heretic update. The theme really isn't new.
